Equally Useful For Demolition

Advantages: The power to destroy as well as create!
Disadvantages: SDS drill-only.

There’s something about a yellow-and-black power tool that makes you look the part. Maybe it’s because a lot of building site gear is that colour. I now notice on a recent visit to Homebase that JCB, (yes, THEM!) are launching a range of power tools in guess what colours. The DeWalt SDS Plus Rotary Hammer Drill is one such piece of kit. Price-wise it’s definitely at the top-end of the amateur price range at £155 from Screwfix, so it has to be that bit more useful to justify the price. I was in the process of rebuilding the kitchen when I had a long hard look at my existing arsenal of power tools. The prospect of knocking another load of holes for electrical points using a hammer-action drill to mark out the perimeters and a cold chisel to do the rest filled me with no pleasure whatsoever. Then, whilst looking ...

A great tool for that in between job where a mains tool is needed

Advantages: Quick and easy to use with all the usual attachements
Disadvantages: Its strength means its easy to forget its only a battery powered tool with limitations

As a professional often working with tools there is often the situation arises where you need options on how to complete or carry out a task. My standard, but very good, battery drill is always with me but there are often times when you find yourself up against a wall that this just won't be able to take! The next option is to go an fetch a bigger mains powered option often with a transformer. But with this Bosch product we now have what I consider a great in between option. My usual industrial mains powered drill is always used for a large job that is going to be on going but this Bosch can be used to do the jobs that need that larger, stronger drill that aren't such a big job. This is great as rather than having to fetch the bigger heavier mains option with transformer the bosch can be fetched from the van to take on those little ...

Draper 18V Cordless Rotary Drill Kit

Advantages: long life, works well
Disadvantages: short battery time

carry around lose drill bits which could get lost. The drill is very comfortable to hold and not too heavy weighing only around 4k so its easy to carry comfortably. The 18V battery takes around 4 hours to charge which is pretty good, although if using the drill frequently the battery does run down quite quickly which can be a problem. The drill will last for quite some time, I have owned mine now for coming up 4 years and it still works perfectly well and still looks in great condition, as if bought yesterday and the battery life is still as good as ever, if short. The drill is also safe to use, of course there is a certain risk factor using a drill of any type but as drills go this drill is quite safe to use as it has limited power and will switch of the instant your finger leaves the trigger. The drill is reasonably priced only ...
