Zen is my kind of detective, lazy, corrupt on occasions and trying to do the minimum amount of work possible while still being a generally likable good guy. Dibdin has a wry humour and one of he things I really love about the books is they cn make me laugh as well as intrigue me. He plots fantastically and his descriptions of Italy really make you feel as if you're there. I've read most of the series now and find them a cut above the avarage detective novel, because of the Italian setting which is evoked so well and the central character whose intelligence and attitude appeal to me as a reader
