When the intergalactic corporation CEC looses radio contact with its mining ship, a mansion vessel that cracks in tire planets to mine them the engineer Isaac Clarke is dispatched on what seems to be a routine mission to repair its communications array. Unfortunately the moment you set foot on the ship its obvious something terrible has happened. As Isaac you are separated almost immediately from the rest of you team but the for-ma crew of the Ishimura has been transformed in to horrifying monsters called Necromorph's. Necromorph's don't die easily, and only by blasting their limbs off will do it, to make things worse they attack in packs using loose team tactics, and fake death among the corpses to rise and attack when you least expect it. The most basic Necromorph's are humanoid monsters that attract in a frenzy, but you also have to deal with undead space mutants, others still have heavily armored but vulnerable from behind, where as scorpion like tails that will leap at you.
One of the first things to notice in Dead Space is that it features a complete lack of a traditional heads up display, instead information is integrated into Isaac's rig uniform, to see his current health you may only glance at his meter to the rigs spine, and to see how much ammo's left in you weapon, simply check the display read out visible when every you raise it to a engage position. Menu's are holographic projected in front of you real time, producing a sense of urgency as you remain venerable to attack. This simple yet injeanious systems insure that u only remain in the realm of the game world at all times preserving to horror experience.
As you explore the many decks of the Ishimura, you will come across two utilities that that will prove to be of endless use. Stasis allows you to rapidly slow down fast moving objects, and kinesis gives you the ability to lift, move, and throw objects in the environment at no cost, although they are used to solve puzzle or navigate the ship, they are also useful battle applications as well.
Between fighting for you escape and battling for your survival you have got your hands pretty full, but that does not say that there are other things to do, as the monsters that you will be killing, were once people, and they will occasionally drop credits that can be spent on, rig upgrades, heath items, new weapons, and extra ammo in the automated stores you come across.
Dead Space never fails to impress with its conspireing visuels, whether your watch the torrential rainfall of asteroids across the whole of the Ishimura, or witnessing the way a corps spinning serenely in zero G vacuum. The haunting but beautiful graphics of Dead Space have away of sticking in your mind long after you've quit playing. What really gives it an incredible experience, is its incredible sound design.
Dead Space is a remarkable game that manages to stand out from its competitors with every way from visuals, to engaging story, and combat mechanics, whether your looking for a terrifying horror experience or a deeply story driven adventure, Dead Space is a fantastic game that you should not pass on.
