Advantages: Great concept and good lead character Disadvantages: Disappointing ending
Background:
I found this novel while searching in the ?bargain bucket? at one of my local Charity Shops. I was actually looking for some flares for a 1970?s theme party I was going to at the weekend, when I stumbled upon this. The price was just 10p bargain was certainly the word that sprung to my mind. As for the trousers I couldn?t find them by managed to find a flowery shirt so bought that instead for the do.
About the Author:
Christine Greene was born in Luton in England. Her early career was in Nursing, however she combined this with her blossoming writing career from 1991, when her first novel was published. It was only in 1998 that she moved into writing thrillers full time. So far she has written a total of 15 books, since the first ?Deadly Errand?, which was short-listed for the John Creasy Award ...
Advantages: Great suspense and decent plot Disadvantages: Feels very dated and some of the effects are laughable
in particular which I always enjoy is "Christine". Directed by John Carpenter and adapted from a Stephen King novel, the film manages to build up suspense throughout its entire duration with out resorting to in your face gore. But to be honest, the plot and suspense is not the reason why I first encountered "Christine", it was the beautiful red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury which is undoubtedly the star of the film which grabbed my attention.
As already mentioned, "Christine" is an adaptation of the Stephen King novel, and whilst I cannot comment on how true to the book the adaptation is, I will say that it makes for a thoroughly decent movie. Based firmly in the real world, whilst relying heavily on a wonderful fantasy element, it manages to mix both seemingly effortlessly, making the viewer forget that a car coming to life is that ...

Advantages: Wonderful gothic romance Disadvantages: Want one of those 'Dark' men for myself.
I am a great fan of the works of ChristineFeehan. She has written a number of romantic fantasy books about the Carpathian people, a race of human like beings from Romania and Transylvania. They are creatures of the night, but not vampires. Each of the books has the word ?dark? in the title and the story is usually based on one of the yummy males of the race.
In Dark Melody Dayan is the dark male interest. He is lead guitarist with the Dark Troubadours and tours the globe playing to packed houses. He is not human. ?I am Carpathian. We are as old as time, doomed to wander the earth until we make the choice to give up our lives. Our males are dark, deadly predators; the beast lies strong within us, ever growing until such time as we find our lifemates to anchor us in the world of light.?
As a Carpathian ages he loses all ...

A nice gripping and readable novel ; A terrific tale of survival ; Very atmospheric ; The characters thoughts and feelings are projected well to the reader
Suddenly stops flowing towards the middle ; King can be slightly over obsequious towards the main character (*)
Stephen King's claim to fame ; Superb atmosphere ; Sublime plot ; A vivid imagination that stretches all supernatural boundaries ; Probably responsible for some of the best horror films of the 70's and 80's
Some unessesary background in the first half ; Kubrik mucked up the story too much ; Could have been much more (*)
