The Phytopeel I bought did not come in the container shown above (which is the old packaging) but it is exactly the same product. Mine came in a thick yellow plastic container which matches the rest of the range. It has the Decleor brand name at the top and a yellow plastic cap which it stands on.

I was slightly dubious about using this for the first time, because I thought exfoliating meant rubbing stuff resembling sandpaper over your skin, I didn't realise there were alternatives....

Decleor's Phytopeel is an exfoliating cream: unlike gritty exfoliators it doesn't work by scratching the dead skin off with particles, the dead skin simply comes off when you rub the product off your face.

This mask would be great for people with sensitive skin, because exfoliators with gritty bits may irritate their skin, but this cream is gentle in its action. It contains essential oils and plant extracts, which help to improve the skin's texture.

Much like the rest of the Decleor range, it is smartly packaged and looks well worth the money. The Phytopeel I bought did not come in the container shown above (which is the old packaging) but it is exactly the same product. Mine came in a thick yellow plastic container which matches the rest of the range. It has the Decleor brand name at the top and a yellow plastic cap which it stands on.

I usually prefer flip top lids as I am worried that leaving the lid off a screw top while I apply the product may allow some of the product to leak out. This container has a screw top lid but it is not really a problem because the product is so thick in texture that it could never leak out; you just need to remember to put the lid back on after use otherwise it will dry out.

The product has a sweet aroma to it which I quite like, just think 'faint scent of aromatherapy' and you won't go far wrong! It is not intrusive, and I don’t think it is artificially perfumed so it shouldn’t irritate your skin. I think the faint fragrance is accredited to the presence of essential oils and plant extracts.

USING PHYTOPEEL

As mentioned above, the product is very thick in texture - it certainly LOOKS and FEELS expensive in your hand. It comes out the tube in a little worm cast type thing (sorry it sounds a bit rank, but that’s what springs to mind) which means that you never need to use too much. It is pearly silver/white in colour, very luxurious.

It is simple to use:

1) Wash your face and pat dry with a clean towel.

2) Spread a fairly thin layer of the mask over your whole face (and neck if desired, but personally I’d rather use something else there).

3) Leave it to dry for about 5-10 minutes (it has to be totally dry for you to be able to rub it off).

4) Once the mask is dry you gently rub it off in circular motions until the majority of the product has been removed from your skin. (It's rather messy with all the mask and bits of skin being rubbed off, so do it over the sink and you won't make a mess).

5) After you've rubbed it off then give your face a quick rinse with warm water to get the last little bits off.

It leaves your skin really velvety soft and smooth - it feels like a whole new layer of skin!

TIP

I usually use this mask before I wash my hair because the little bits that come off when you rub the mask off can get tangled in your hairline...

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

This product costs £15 for a 50ml tube. It may sound expensive, but this tube will probably last me over 2 years as you only need to use it once a week. It is not something that will need to be replaced often. Decleor is sold in most major department stores and larger Boots stores.
