Like gore and street fighting? Then you'll love the newest version of the ever so popular Def Jam Fight For New York.
It was founded in 1984 and has been a huge success ever since. The Universal company was founded in the US and includes such successes as Def Jam recordings and other revolutionary computer games.
The game mainly consists of black rappers participating in violent street fights not suitable for young children. It is a close follow up of the ever so successful Def Jam for the PS2 and as we already know, there is going to be a new one for the PS3 and XBOX 360 called Def Jam ICON which does actually look quite appealing. It is basically the same gameplay and plots as the PS2 version only in a different sort of way as is most PSP games originally created for the PS2. I also think this was a good idea at the time to make this into a PSP game but I don't think, as an owner of this game, that it was very successful.
Firstly, the ganeplay is far too short and doesn't have enough time and challenges as I would have hoped and secondly, it is a mere duplicate of the PS2 version. Having said that, there are also concepts of this game that make it enjoyable. To start with, the characters aren.t just any old people, they are very successful black rappers such as Fat Joe, Xzibit (host of Pimp My Ride) and Snoop Dog. And these characters are also interpretated by their real voices which I think is good.
Subway Matches is just one of the matched you can take part in and it includes some revolutionary ideas for a match never thought of before. As nost 18+ games nowadays, I think it should have included a free roam across the streets for a more unintense gameplay. You could say it imitates wrestling quite well as it has the same concept except it is out on streets etc. Street Fighting and Wrestling are just two of the styles used in this gameplay. The story mode is pretty straight forward fights all over America but doesn't include nearly as much stuff as the PS2 version. For starters, it doesn't have regular intervals of stories and videos probably because of the tiny amount of memory on a PSP game.
All in all, I think this is a good game but I, personally, would have wanted some more gameplay and a bit more stories from the game. In addition to this, I would say that if you have the PSP version but not the PS2 version, either wait for the Def Jam ICON to come out and buy that or sell your PSP version and buy the PS2 one as this is much, much better.
