Jam Vendettatakes you on a head-slamming, gut-busting tour of the underground hip-hop fightclub circuit. No blow is too low in this testosterone-spiked world featuring the music and likenesses of Def Jam artists such as Ghostface Killah, Redman and Ludacris--not to mention a whole host of the nastiest, most lowdown fictional thugs you'd imagine the hardcore rap world has to offer. Everyone's lying in wait to see if you're for real or just another wannabe player.Def Jam Vendettaoffers three game modes: Battle, where it's just you against up to three takers, Survival, in which you fight all comers until you lose and--where the real meat of the game takes place--Story, in which you fight as one of four brawlers. The journey begins at the Face Club where you step in for your injured pal Manny. From there you move on to other venues such as DMX's Junkyard and Ludacris's Club Luda and climb the ranks to the ultimate showdown with D-Mob. The route there isn't a cakewalk, but the more battles you win, the more money you make to upgrade your fighting attributes. Victories also bring the ladies calling. They literally fight for your attention--win a fight by playing as the newest girl to approach you and you'll unlock pictures of her in your photo gallery.Action inside the ring is gritty and furious as you can lay down a multitude of moves and combinations with names like Hurtin' Unit, Spittin' Teef, Ghetto Thuggin', and Death Row Delivery, to name just a few. Momentum is key in building toward Blazin' Mode, in which you can utilise your signature move for the sure KO. In the meantime, though, there's still plenty of fun to be had in decking your opponents and watching them moan and writhe about in pain.--Larry White

DEF JAM Vendetta by Electronic Arts was a pretty cool game based on many wrestling games out but instead twists it a different way by using by rappers.. The game is basically about you as a fighter who comes to the aid of one your friends Manny to help get money to clear his debts for D-Mob which happens to be the black Mob boss of the community

The graphics were pretty good, not the usual crap of badly rendered 3d rendered characters that you get in Wrestling games. Every fighting in the game like Dmx, Ludicrous, your fighter, and the opponents look for the most part very real. For DMX and Ludicrous and Method Man, their onscreen counterparts look like their real counterparts. The arenas themselves look great, not every arena looks the same, most of them resemble normal wrestling rings, but the objects around them are different, sometimes you fight in the city, other times you fight in dance casinos.
*** out ***
Sound and Music
The sound and music were pretty cool I would almost say their awesome except sometimes we get the same tune from DMX (X going to give it to you) playing. Basically if you love rap your gonna love this game as the tunes are filled with hip-hop Tunes from artists like Method Man, Dmx and others. Now you get an audio commentary throughout your fights, by basically the dj of the "joint" of the arena you are in. It's by the same guy throughout, and the commentary can get repetitive like the tunes so this is one area of the game that could have been much better.
A good idea would have been to include two instead of one announcer to call the action. Especially announcers with two different viewpoints, for example you had one guy calling the guy and rooting for one opponent while the other announcer does the same except with the opposite opponent.
Controls ** out ***
Well the box of PS2 Cover states you can use over 1500 “ Battle over the top with 1500 moves” it states, but that’s an over assumption. Even with the fourty plus fighters you can pick it still doesn’t amount to that much that. However there were trying to sell the game here so they were exaggerate things.
Ask for the controls themselves, if you played any type of wrestling game for PS2 or PS1 like WWF Smackdown or WWE Raw, the moves and combos should be very familiar. Def Jam Vendetta like many wrestling games uses a grapple system which have you to use to pull any moves in the game. Without grappling you ain’t gonna win. In succession with the grappling system then you can throw fighters to the ropes, drop-kick, clothesline, ddt, and toss them to the ropes and out to the ropes. When you want to fight toe to toe, you grapple first and then you the circle, square and triangle buttons on PS2 to pull hard hitting moves like a tombstone, bodyslam, suplexes and other holds.
Naturally every fighter has a finishing type move that you can use and you are equipped with a variety of submission holds. One new twists they added here is what they call a “Blaze” move. When your fighter gets hot after completing a succession of moves, you then get a hot streak and are then able to pull a huge finisher or whats known as the K.O. to literally kill your opponent. It comes in very handy and youll then use the “Blaze” move because the opponents you face later on are very tough.
One extreme setup in the control department and overall design of the game is that there is no hardcore rules or weapons in the game. Despite this coming of as a smashmouth , gritty fighting game, Def Jam Vendetta, lacks a key element in any fighting/wrestling game, weapons and foreign objects. I think EA dropped the ball on that one. This alone hurts the game quite a bit, I mean theres nothing gamers like more than bashing their opponents in with a chair or a table, but the game has none of that and thus loses some interactivity with the player.
This doesn't sound like a big deal at first, but when play TAG TEAM mode, it will be extremely annoying as you team up with "Manny" to fight for Championship. "Manny" compared to other fighters in the game is an utter weakling and is a weak link so basically if you don't get lucky with him, your basically playing a handicap match.
Replay Value ** and half start out of ****
Here is where the game falls short here, yeah you can unlock all of the fighters in the game, but as stated the somewhat linear and repetive play , sort of doom the game from future use.
There is no steel cages to be fought in, no hardcore weapons you can use in the game, no other modes of play, although you can unlock costumes and other stuff but overall the replay value I found to be very low. Def Jam Vendetta is the type of buy if you had the bad luck of buying it, that after you beat it, it will probably sit on your shelves for a very low time.
One Other Blunder to Mention:
Well the back of the game box says it's rated "TEEN" yet in reality this game with it's barrage of strong and sometimes offensive language and it's sexual themes (women are paraded here as objects, or as the street term as many people know are "hoes") this game really should have gotten a "MATURE" rating. Really. However the funny thing is, that sort of doesn't matter in this game since the game has it's share of problems.
Overall ** out ****
I can't for the life of me recommend this game. Although I liked the fact that you have DMX, Ludicrous, Method Man and Red Man are other rappers in the game to choose from (after you beat them to unlock em) the game has so many flaws and a lack of interactivity (such as the lack of hardcore weapons) that the game really is only going to be played once. After I finish the game, I know I will never play it again, heck ill probably play "Smackdown Here Comes the Pain" or another game that is more polished and has more to offer than "Def Jam Vendetta".
No disrespect to DMX and others, but I wouldn't buy this game, I borrowed it from a friend and I consider it a favor since forking over money would have seem like a bad choice.
Advantages: DMX! DMX! DMX! Disadvantages: I haven't heard of half the rappers in the game.
Def Jam Vendetta is a wrestling game. It is a very good wrestling game, which feeatures some famous rappers in it. Unfortunately for me, the only two I know out of it are DMX and Ludacris. Oh well. I borrowed this game off of my uncle, and in return lent him FFX. I played this game for a couple of hours straight first time, then just played it every now and then. Graphics- 8 Good, but nothing really to boast about. The gallery pictures are sharp, ... ...smooth. However, some of the characters look a bit dodgy in points. When a girl character is in the ring, for example, she looks ridiculously thin and tall. Some of the rappers, such as Ludacris, also look a bit on the skinny side. The moves in the game are very good. Some of them are very unrealistic, but look very painful. Some look significantly over the top, though, and blatantly couldn't be performed in real life. For example, one of the Story ...

Advantages: A hip-hop wrestling game to compete with Smackdown! Disadvantages: Limited modes and there are no objects to interact with
Def Jam Vendetta is a wrestling simulation. Unlike the Smackdown! series this game is based on the hip-hop Def Jam record label instead of proffesional wrestlers. So you won't be seeing the likes of The Rock, Randy Orton or Batista instead you'll be seeing DMX, Nore and Ludracris.
Def Jam Vendetta is developed by the AKI Corporation who used to develop the WCW wrestling games until it became defunt in November 2001. EA Big publishes the game instead ... ...to puchase pictures in the Def Jam Galleries which are pictures of all the hip-hop laydees you meet on your way up the underground wrestling ladder. The boss is D-Mob who you will eventually meet in the end. As you progress throughout the Story Mode your oppponents will become harder so I advise that you spend your money wisely on attributes. The nice thing about the Story Mode is the cinematic cut scenes they are good.
There is also an Exhibition ...

...be released next year. As Def Jam Vendetta (DJV) was a new series it had to come into the gaming world with a bang; and it did. This game gave you the answer to "Who would win a fight out of Methan Man and Redman?" or "Could anyone beat DMX in a fight?". In DJV some of the most well known artists on the Def Jam record label featured, including: Ludacris, Joe Budden and Ghostface Killah, as well as a selection of made-up characters with unique personalities ... ...level of authentitcity to the Def Jam title. The gameplay is very simple for the game, far less complex than WWE SmackDown! games, however, if you are used to wrestling games then you will have only played that sereis and therefore it does take some time to get used to. I felt it took me a while to complete when a first got it. Once I did finish the story mode, I gave it to my sister and she managed to complete it over a weekend. This shows you that ...

Amazing graphics, and an excellent idea for a game. The Characters are great and recognizable. Lot's of action and the special moves kick ass.
Redman, Methodman, DMX, Capone, and many more of your favourite Hip Hop stars appear in the excellent Wrestling game.

Lots of different multi player modes mean this is a great game to pull out whenever mates are about, although you'll need to have completed the game on a few different user profiles so that all players can get the good characters.
If you are a fan of hip-hop and wrestling (and computer games) then this is ...

Advantages: great graphics, good control system Disadvantages: can get repetitive
Well, to start with this game is gorgeous. But the improvements aren't just the visuals. The whole games been re worked and fine-tuned. The already impressive ranks of rappers of the roster has increased with superstars like; Busta Rhymes, Ice-T, Snoop Dog and Lil' Kim and Carmen Electra. With dozens others which aren't so recognisable. More importantly it's the fighting that's had the biggest revamp. While the basic controls and movement have remained ... ...a whole new level. The bouts are no longer confined to the ring, the bouts now the place in a range of clubs, rooftops and even subway stations. These new places don't just add variety but also interactively, there's not a spot on the wall that you cant plant someone's head into. Weapons are a very much included part of the game, including baseball bats, iron bars, glass bottles handed out by the bloodthirsty crowd. There are five clearly defined ...
