Advantages: fullness, hint of fruit in its flavour, good packaging, very good quality brew Disadvantages: quite strong, can get you drunk quite fast, very hard to find
Delirium Tremens is a belgian beer that can actually be considered the best of its kind.
The bottle's design is quite attractive, the white bottle is covered with a light blue shiny foil over the top, and a blue sticker with pink elephants on it, which are the ones that gave it its name, as it is the name of an alcoholism type of disease which makes you see pink elephants.
It is Very full of flavour and its alcoholic ... ...have to go to the Delirium Café in Brussels (4 euros- 3pounds a pint).
It is unfortunately quite hard to find in the UK, but it can be found for outrageous prices in specialist beer shops, even though my advice would be to import it from belgium where you can find it for just over 1 euro (70p) for a 33cl bottle or 5 euros (3.5 pounds) for a 75cl champagne-like bottle.

It is Very full of flavour and its alcoholic strength of 9% is almost diluted by a hint of fruitness in its flavor. It's quite a sweet beer, but not overly sweet. It is in fact a lot less sweet than Duvel (which can be found in supermarkets like saisbury's). The bottled version of this beer is really good, but if you want to taste its real amazing flavor, you are going to have to go to the Delirium Café in Brussels (4 euros- 3pounds a pint).

I have imported a few bottles for one of my friends who doesn't like sweet beers, and he was very pleased, and defined it "the best beer I've ever had".
I would advise this beer for special occasions or as a gift to someone, because of its price and the amazing quality of the brew, and also because of the fact that it can get you drunk quite fast, since most people don't realize its strength.
Advantages: Wonderfully presented Disadvantages: Very sweet
Delerium Tremens is wonderfully presented. The stone effect bottle, with the blue foil and the pink elephants, set the scene wonderfully. Its creators, the Huyghe Brewery, Melle, Belgium, have been brewing this beer to a recipe since 1695.
It's a very rich beer, with a smooth slightly hoppy taste and perhaps just a hint of a smokey flavour. There is perhaps a touch of citrus.
Unfortunately for me, that touch of citrus isn't enough to overcome the ... ...hide the massive alcohlic strength of this beer. It's a full 9% and to get there there Huyghe's must have produced an O.G. of over 1100.
I can't help being reminded of those over-strengthed "danish lagers" popular in the 1980's.That said, even they must have had a market somewhere.
For those, like me, without the sweet-tooth needed for these beers with a huge original gravity and no intention of being brewed to anywhere near dryness, I can thoroughly ...

Advantages: Wonderful, full bodied, complex beer Disadvantages: Hard to find
know!) and is comparably priced to similar Belgian beers. You can get it in some pubs and bars; some of the Hogshead chain sell it, as does, of course the wonderful Belgos/Bierodrome chain. It will probably cost you about £2 to buy per bottle in a supermarket - less in France, however you're looking at about £3.50 in a bar. Worth it though!
Other suggested beers (or at least an indication of what this one?s like): Duvel and DeliriumTremens.
This is definitely a wonderful beer, the jewel in Hoegaarden?s crown and worth investigating if you get the chance ...
