Delerium Tremens is wonderfully presented. The stone effect bottle, with the blue foil and the pink elephants, set the scene wonderfully. Its creators, the Huyghe Brewery, Melle, Belgium, have been brewing this beer to a recipe since 1695.
It's a very rich beer, with a smooth slightly hoppy taste and perhaps just a hint of a smokey flavour. There is perhaps a touch of citrus.
Unfortunately for me, that touch of citrus isn't enough to overcome the sweetness of the beer. Huyghe, just haven't been able to hide the massive alcohlic strength of this beer. It's a full 9% and to get there there Huyghe's must have produced an O.G. of over 1100.
I can't help being reminded of those over-strengthed "danish lagers" popular in the 1980's.That said, even they must have had a market somewhere.
For those, like me, without the sweet-tooth needed for these beers with a huge original gravity and no intention of being brewed to anywhere near dryness, I can thoroughly recommend its sister-brew, Delerium Nocturnum.
It's expensive in Belgium at 4 Euro's a bottle in the bars in Brugge. It's more like 2.8 Euro's in the supermarkets. You can buy it for a shade under £3.00 in your speciality beer shop, but I've yet to see it in a UK supermarket.

The name makes it sound attractive, however your review points me away from this brew as I hate sweet beers.

Good first review, but maybe you could go into more depth about the taste, price, etc. If you need help, let me know, Matt x
Advantages: fullness, hint of fruit in its flavour, good packaging, very good quality brew Disadvantages: quite strong, can get you drunk quite fast, very hard to find
