If you purchase the xbox arcade console then you will get one of these 512mbmemory units free with the console. However if you opt to go for either the premium console or the elite console you will get the main hard drive for free and will have less need for these. These small memory units are both advantageous as they are small and compact and suitable for certain tings. However they are on the other hand quite pathetic compared to the 20gb or 120gb hard drives which are also available on the market. I currently own both a 20gb hard drive and one of these 512mbmemory units as well.

The Xbox 360 512MBMemory Unit was created with Casual Gamers in mind. For those of us who didn't want to buy the Premium or Elite XBOX 360 units, the alternative was and still is the arcade version. The difference between the Arcade and Premium / Elites is that it doesn't come bundled with a hard drive to save your games on. Instead, the arcade version comes bundled with a 256MBMemory Unit which is the exact same product as this one, but with only half the memory capacity.
So that really begs the question - who buys the 512mb version ? Well, I guess Microsoft figured that if somebody runs out of room on their 256mbMemory Unit then they would naturally purchase a 512mbMemory Unit to be able to continue saving their games, which is a fair assumption.
