I must admit, I was more than a bit sceptical when I saw that Dell made a set of 5.1 speakers with a total power output of 100W. Dell are renowned for their PC Systems, but I never imagined they would start producing speaker systems!

Let's start with what you see when you open the box. I must say, I was very impressed with the way Dell had packaged the kit. Each speaker had it's own little moulded holder in the polystyrene packing, and the subwoofer was packaged with protective film and the some very thick polystyrene board.

Each wire is colour-coded, making it easy for anyone to wire the speakers up. Photo-type connectors reside on the ends of the satellite speaker leads, which plug firmly in to the back of the subwoofer with a satisfying 'click'.

There are 2 leads to use whilst connecting the PC - One for systems with a 5.1 sound card, comprising 3 stereo jack plugs, and one for standard 2 channel sound cards, which joins the 3 stereo jacks into just one. Ideal for laptops or older PCs!

Once the whole system is set up as desired, all that remains is to fire the system up, and give it some music to chew on! and what an experience...

What struck me as most impressive was how low the subwoofer was able to go. It really is unbelieveable what £50 ish will buy you nowadays! My £150 Monitor Audio Bronze B1 Speakers (See my other reviews) only just beat the low notes this set can deliver, which is rather worrying really, to say the least.

Overall sound quality is excellent with music, with the satellites giving it all they've got in Pop, Hip-Hop and Rock music. The subwoofer and satellites seem to integrate seamlessly with each other, resulting in a very pleasing soundstage for any kind of music.

With movies, the 5650 can really start to stretch it's legs. When playing the film 'Titanic' you can really appreciate how wonderful this setup is, and how you have probably just spent the best £50 you ever will!

When you hear the 'THX Certified' introduction you will probably get very excited, and once the film starts with the underwater scene you (and your neighbours, if you live in a semi-detached house like me!) will be feeling the rumbles just as if you were there.

A great space-age design and an unusually attractive subwoofer really are the icing on the cake - Not only do you have a very capable setup, but a great looking one too!

I would just like to finish with one final phrase - "GET ONE NOW!"
