I'm very very impressed with it indeed. I've got a 512meg SD card installed, with Tom Tom maps of the whole UK. I also have a few hundred megs of digital music on there. Dell still sell this particular model, but that part of the website is down at the moment unfortunately so can't provide a more up-to-date price! I'll update the review shortly. I'm very very impressed with it indeed. I've got a 512meg SD card installed, with Tom Tom maps of the whole UK. I also have a few hundred megs of digital music on there. Battery life is excellent - I can use it on the train to London (about 2 hours) for listening to music, and only use about 50% of the battery. The inbuilt speaker is loud enough to be heard above road noise when used as a sat-nav device. The screen is crystal clear and bright. Software runs fast enough for me, and most importantly it runs Tom Tom with ease.
The chasis of the pda is very small and belies it's powerful innards. My version came with built in WLAN which is also very powerful and can pickup networks from down the street!
So although primarily used as sat-nav, I do use it for WLAN internet access and as a digital music player - i've also used it to watch movies!
Now for the most important thing - price! I bought one from ebay for £160, fully boxed with instructions plus the docking cradle (usually £20)! The PDA usually retails for well over £200 from Dell - especially with the WLAN module included. Dell still sell this particular model, but that part of the website is down at the moment unfortunately so can't provide a more up-to-date price! I'll update the review shortly. Link this in with a £60 Tom Tom GPS adapter, and you have sat-nav in your car for a bargain price.
Advantages: Thin and lightweight. Disadvantages: No backup battery. Can accidentally be wiped when battery runs out.
I evaluated the Dell Axim x3 for my workplace for various tasks such as a using it as a personal diary and installing work applications. I found it was extremely easy to use (I was a first time PDA user) and I was soon using all the features of the software it provided.
The PDA is extremely easy to use and set up. I almost didnt need a manual for reference. I did not have an SD card and so the memory on it was very limited. I would recommend buying ... ...going to be storing large files on it. The large screen is very clear to view applications and can be adjusted for brightness and power saving options.
The built in WiFi (Wireless network card) was very reliable as I used it to connect to my office network. I could then view websites with the PDA which was extremely fast. It also formated each page to view on a small screen. One disadvantage was the battery. There was no backup battery like some ...

...ebay. I am not sure Dell are still producing the X3i but there are various retail sites still offering the basic PDA for around £200.
Bluetooth and wifi are standard on the X3i. Have yet to use the wifi but the bluetooth works a treat. It's a bit slow but you can download your emails just about anywhere so long as you have service on your blueooth mobile phone.
Battery life seems to be excellent with a relatively quick recharge time. ...

Advantages: Excellent performance PDA Disadvantages: No upgarde to windows mobile 2003 SE
I bought the Axim X3 a year after i had bought the X5. Comparing the two products the X3 has improved greatly in its design, almost halfing the depth of the device. The hardware has additional buttons that you can customise in the setup.
The PDA has a changable battery and a backup battery that recharges. The backup battery will last for 30 minutes and after that you will loose all data.
The in-built memory is enough is you are not intenting to ... ...TomTom Navigator on it so I got a 512 MB SD Card. The X3 only allows SD memory expantion.
After using this modle for about a year I have only had it crash on me about 3 times. You can communicate with otherdevices by the standard infrared port, cradle or optional wireless. As a conclusion this is one of the best PDA i have used. It is suitable for home or enterprise use. If I ever wanted to upgrade in the future I would definitly get another Axim ...

Advantages: Very easy to use/navigate Disadvantages: Can't think of any!
My husband bought me a Dell Axim for my birthday last year and I love it to pieces!
It's my first PDA and for someone with limited PDA-ing experience, its great as its very easy to navigate to whatever you want. Mine has the smallest memory possible and I haven't filled it yet. I guess it all depends on what you use it for.
It's that good I got my hubby to buy himself one (with bluetooth and Tom Tom sat nav), he also thinks its great although did ...

Advantages: Small and powerful Disadvantages: Sticks out the top of PDA so could easily be snapped off
I purchased this card on a well known auction site for £27.00 which I feel is excellent value considering the card also has a massive 256 mb of extra memory for storage of files and data.
You have to have a PDA with SDIO (secure digital in/out) available or the card will not work.
I am using the card with my DellAximX3 and my wireless home network which has the Belkin 802.11g wireless router. The card is rated at IEEE 802.11b which is slower than 802.11g but the difference is not noticable when using under normal conditions as web pages load very very quickly. Conguration of the card is very easy after you have installed the driver software via Active Sync from your PC to Your PDA. When you insert the card into the PDA the card automatically searches for any wireless network type signals and lists them for you so that you can pick ...
Advantages: Looks great, works flawlessly, has wireless AND bluetooth Disadvantages: Dell customer service isn't great when buying...
I bought my DellAximX30 just over 3 months ago, and I absolutely love it. I did a lot of research in order to choose this particular model, and in the end I opted for it because I could get a 624MHz processor with bluetooth, wireless and a cradle for a similar sum as a lower-spec X50. It's considerably cheaper than many similar products produced by other companies.
The only downside is the Dell customer service. It really isn't as good as it should be. It's impossible to speak to the same person twice, so if you have a query you can rarely resolve it. Dell uses foreign call centres, and there is a definite feeling that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
However despite that my PDA was delivered extremely quickly, perfectly packaged and with everything I ordered.
Another positive feature of the X30 ...

My Palm Tungsten E was beginning to show its age after a couple of years and I started looking at a replacement. I am not confident about the future for Palm units so thought I'd look at Pocket PC models. After initially looking at HP iPaq models I felt that the Dell range offered better value for money.
