Ok, so I am a girlie writing about something electronic. But I felt my Dell Axim 5 had to be written about.
My husband had told me that he had bought me a combined birthday and Christmas present and that it was going to be delivered the next day. Did I want it now or wait till xmas? Going on previous gifts, I thought it best to see it now, so that I would have time to change it. Sounds rude, but he would be the same, probably?
Imagine my amazement when a sizeable box came through the post and I was handed this beautiful looking PDA. He had finally bought me something I wanted!
Straight away the power button was on, the stylish stylus was out and I'm tapping away. Anyone who uses Windows would be able to pick it up very easily, with pulldown windows and program files. Unfortunately, as do many products, it only came with the minimal battery strength, so after a quick play, I had to charge the battery up for over 4 hours initial charge.
It was then that my husband realised that he may have got more of a bargain then he thought he had. On the internet site, he had ordered a 300MHz 32 ram unit for £173 inc. Vat. This in itself was a good price in comparison to shop PDA's. But, between you and me, although it was stated on the invoice, Dell had sent the next model up worth £230 inc. Vat. What a result, all 400MHz and 64 ram!
Software wise, it came with Pocket Word and Pocket Excel. It also came with Microsoft Reader which is great because you can download ebooks from the internet and have a portable library in the palm of your hand. Just be aware that you have to activate Microsoft Reader online to start. It does have internet capabilities where you can use the infra red with your mobile, but you have to pay for this facility and I personally find using the docking station on my laptop is good enough.
It comes with jawbreaker and solitare, but obviously there are many games that can be downloaded from the internet. I have found a great internet site where I can get them free. Contact me if you want to know. There is a slot for a digital card and compact flash card. Although 64Mb is good, I personally bought a 128Mb to hold my ebooks on and store more games and photos.
What more can I say. It is just a great little tool. I'm writing this review on it now using writing recognition. I'll dock with my laptop, then you can read it. Sorted!
