I'm going to write this review in english, so hopefully anyone, regardless of computer knowledge can understand it. I've owned just three computers in my lifetime, two of which were Gateway. After Gateway moved out of the UK market, I had to look for a new manufacturer of computer. The usual offerings were available, but I ended up choosing Dell for a number of reasons. Dell have a great reputation for producing quality computers.

To some people that may make absolutly no sense so i'll try and put it into english!
Pentium 4 2.8 GHZ (processor) = This is the processor chip in your computer, which processes all of the data being used. How good a processor chip is is roughly linked to the amount of GHZ. At time of reading this, most computers include a processor of 3.0GHZ which is absolutly fine for the average PC user. If all you do is web surf, Word documents and some games then this is more than adequte.
512MB DDR RAM (RAM memory) =This is sort of memory for your computer, but is wiped every time you turn it off. When you have a word document or a game playing, instead of the processor (see above) finding the information about the game from the hard drive (see below) it finds it from the DDR RAM. So basically, its jus temporary memory, and the more of it - the better! You should be looking to buy a computer with atleast 512MB. For those who are average users, this will be suffice.
120GB Hard drive (Hard drive) =This is easy to describe, its how much memory your computer has! How much you need really depends on what you do on your computer. I have all of my music collection on my PC, some movies and games. With all of this, I have used just 20%. However I would recommend a minimum of 120GB
128MB ATI radeon 9800 graphics card (Graphics card) =In many computers you will find onboard graphics. This means that the graphics are already in the computer (basically) and aren't very good. Will suffice for web surfing and word documents, anyone who is interested in watching movies on their computer, playing games or edit videos should consider a graphics card. If you don't do any of the above, then you don't need to spend much (or any) money on this, since you won't notice any difference.
5.1 soundblaster souncard (Sound card) =The soundcard of the computer. What pumps the sound out! the number "5.1" refers to how many speakers it can send sound too, but usually a basic £20 soundcard is suffice for normal use! Not a feature to spend much money on.
15" Ultrasharp flatpanel monitor (Monitor) =As I'm sure you are aware, you can get CRT (big) monitors and LCD (flat) monitors. I chose a flat one since it saves on so much room. I'd recommend the same and the prices of them have fallen in recent years dramatically.
Windows XP (Operating System) =The piece of software that communicates all of the above hardware to the user! Most people use windows, but Linux among others is another option.
So hopefully that has educated you a bit more in computers and what is appropiate for you. To go over it again, these are the headers that you should consider when buying a computer.
But back to the Dell Dimension 4600, whats so good about it? Well I've had the system over a year now and I've had no problems with it. Let me repeat that - NO PROBLEMS. The system is quiet and performs very well with the above specification. Of course computers are continously improving so I wouldn't recommend that you went out and bought the same computer as me! Although it is very good and I paid a good price for it, there have been improvements. The "Dell Demension 5000" is probably the same product line as my one.
So to conclude, why buy Dell? Well Dell will offer you stability and a fantastic product. The computers that you see in the highstreet may look the same, have the same specification but the Dell WILL out perform them and be more stable. Also Dell have made everything easy. Although I'm alright with computers, there are plenty of instructions to set the computer up, step by step. Those who are not confident enough to do this have the option fo r a Dell engineer to do this on site.
I paid £1009 for this computer 18 months ago but this included a 3 yr warranty. i think that was fantastic value, and now i'm sure you can get my specification computer for much cheaper.

My boyf had seen dell advertised on the tele loads and I had had all those god damn annoying pop ups hitting my screen whenever I logged into ciao (tip: download the google toolbar and it stops them.) We went to curry’s first of all as we really needed to get one on credit but both got turned down, I justified having it on credit as my mystery shop jobs would cover the monthly payments easily. This was probably the hardest way of ordering a computer I have ever tried, but just purely for the fact that there was no advice available and I had to do some guess work as to what the specs meant and what we actually needed. The other deceiving thing is that when you see a computer on the front page advertised for lets say £550 that’s not really the correct price, that is just the cost for the tower ...

The Dell Dimension is a good solid mid-to-high mid range computer. In the minimum configuration it provides enough speed and storage capacity for work and home use including basic multi media. In the high end range it also is good for some more serious multi media work.
For just work and surving it is too powerfull.
It comes with a basic set of tools for multi-media operations like burning cd's and dvd's. Although nothing fancy it does the trick ... ...configuring the PC was missing. Dell was in September 2004 only offering a USB external option that will compete with other USB devises for resources potentially leading to hick-ups in TV viewen or recording. Better buy a separate tuner card and install it yourself. A pitty because some potential buyers would not like to open the box and do this themselves. My machine is a Dell Dimension 4600 which runs at 4.8GH power and has SD Ram memory.
My son tells me that the amount of memory installed will last me personally for as long as I need it to, so you can almost say I have a lifetimes supply of computer memory, I only wish my real memory was as certain he he.
It came equipped with a 56k modem and has a 120 GB hard drive. A 3D AGP graphics card,cd and dvd re writer, HP colour printer, a flatbed ... ...The graphics on my Dell machine are a lot more refined and the sound quality is excellent, giving out full dolby surround sound.
I can play almost any game or dvd on here with the minimum of fuss due to an inteligent device which my son set up so almost every thing I do can be accessed by one simple menu screen. This makes life a lot easier for me as I am not very computor literate, so being able to simply type in what function I need and have it ...
