I got my Dell a couple of years ago when it was a top of the range PC. The Dimension XPS R450 is a hard working machine with a great spec for a commercial machine. Unlike many companies, Dell do not bundle your PC with tons of stupid peripherals that are poor quality or useless. My Dimension XPS 450 came with a Epson Stylus 640 printer, and no Webcam or rubbish scanner which wouldn't have got used anyway.
This system has 128MB RAM ... ...although it only has a P2 450 processor it is more than fast enough to run any programs available at the moment. The 12.8 Gb Hard Disk has tons of space for the average home user and it comes with a Zip Drive to back up your work anyway.
This system comes with a Toshiba DVD ROM which is great for entertainment. The only problem is that the speakers on this system could be better as they are only just powerful enough to listen to the ... more

I recently upgraded my system with a CD-RW and this has made the PC so much better. It is a great backup method and is great for music fans: you can record CDs and I use mine to save my MP3's onto CD to save disk space.
The graphics with this PC are also fantastic with an ATI Rage Pro video card than runs games like Motocross Madness with incredible graphics. The sound card could probably be better but the speakers let it down anyway.
I would reccomend this system to anyone looking for a quality second hand system. It still works great and will have a few years left in it. At under £500 it is a bargain.

The PCs are a good high power package with good spec but if ordering several machines don't expect them to be the same. Dell seem to chnge their components more often than the wind changes direction so make sure you have plenty of space to store all those drivers!
Also if you do buy one even an devout aetheist should be on their knees praying it doesn't break down. I've never enjoyed wasting my time listening ... ...was probably selling hamburgers last week reading out a nineteen page script of irrelevent questions to help him identify the problem with my computer.
That is of course *WHEN* (if) you get past the 60 minute "all our agents are currently busy" phase (which you have to repeat every time you ring back, even on the same fault) and after you are passed to the American support desk to hear someone tell you that it really is a hardware fault which they ...

I brought my Dell from an online service i wont mention who and after being told ild be getting it in about 3-4 weeks i didnt recieve my 700 pound machine intill last week and that is about three months. They blamed the problem on Dell and said they didnt send my order even though the online shop sent them my order to Dell for them to get shipped to be in 3-4 weeks. ...not hesitate in recommending a dell computer to anyone, not least for the build quality, but I would take issue on the appaling lack of respect shown by their support staff.
A year ago, when i was still mad enough to work an 80-hour week and not complain about it, I used to set these fellows up for a company I worked for, having decided to installed NT server instead of workstation I noticed that the hard disc had only reported 2 gig out of the ... ...the phone I put down the phone and explained everythng to my boss who wrote a missive off to Dell about this.
If anything is to be learnt from this is that you may as well lie to get them to do what you know has to be done. ...

...said above, the machines from Dell are good enough for that extra price hike. This is certainly well spent money when it comes to support queries as the people at the other end tend to know what they're doing. The kit itself has always been impeccably built. No rotting cables held in with sticky tape here. Chassis quality issuperb as is access to the main board and all of it's sub-components. Customer services and the technical support department ...

My Dell is almost 2 years old, at the time it was one of the fastest on the market; but with PC's progressing as they are it's now only an entry system. The performace and reliability have been excellent and have never had to use the support that Dell provide, however it is nice to know that it is there if needed. I opted for the 19 inch monitor which has not degraded at all in the past two years. The 14GB disk is only about half full, and could ... ...is used for software developement, internet access, games etc. I've added an ISDN card, network card and TV Tuner card and a CDRW, and I am running out of room, a larger box and more slots would probably now be beneficial. Having had no problems with my machine over the past 2 years there is not a lot more to say, except I would recommend them to anybody. ...
