~~*~~*~~ Dell Inspiron 1525 ~~*~~*~~ Whilst the demise of any electrical object is always a sad occasion - I felt my laptop was a personal friend and thus when it developed serious motherboard malfunction, I decided that I would purchase a new friend for the old laptop (rather like obtaining a new puppy when old yellow's on his way out) and transfer the information before it was lost in the electrical ether. The search for my new best friend began - luckily, my other half works in IT (I have no idea what this job title entails but he knows stuff about computers) and I learnt quite a lot ... more

Advantages Advantages Does the basics, good sized keyboard and buttons, reasonably quick

Disadvantages Disadvantages Battery failure, quite heavy, gets hot quickly

I've owned this laptop for about 3 years now, after a series of events leading to me moving back in with my parents led to me being without a PC, and in this day and age that just wasn't conceivable! I know very little about technology, so I enlisted the help of my dad to make the decision regarding which laptop to buy based on what I'd be using it for. I ended up buying the Dell Inspiron 1525 and am still using this laptop. Although it's a bit dated and has a few annoyances, it still fulfils its purpose so I see no reason to replace it until absolutely necessary. Price and Availability I ... more

Advantages Advantages Looks nice, works well, some nice added touches

Disadvantages Disadvantages A few build and technical issues

The Inspiron 1525 is Dell's version of the "budget" laptop, a step down from their high spec XPS gaming laptops. I bought this laptop as it is constantly rated as one of the best budget laptops on the market. Lets see if those claims are justified. Specifications As you may know, an unusual thing with Dell is that they only sell laptops online, and all products can be fully customised to meet your specifications. For around £329 you can buy the base level specifications of an Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T1400(1.73Ghz), 2Gb RAM and a 120Gb hardrive. More than sufficient for an entry level ... more

Advantages Advantages Robust, looks good, great for typing, good value for money

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ethernet port is a little tempremental sometimes

I bought the Inspiron 1525 in the Summer of 2008, and I have to say I'm really impressed. I've been using a laptop for years for school work and all sorts of stuff, and every time i've actually got it, i've been disappointed; there has been some problem, or it has started crashing and being rubbish quickly, some feature wasn't quite as I'd imagined... I could go on. But this laptop has been a breath of fresh air. The whole design and feel of it, it's clear that a lot of thought has gone into making it a decent computer. Anyway, to get started. First things first, this is the first laptop I've ... more

Advantages Advantages Scroll-wheel touchad, wide screen, LOADS of memory

Disadvantages Disadvantages Overheating is a problem

I got hold of this laptop last year, after my boyfriend spilt coke over his previous laptop and then claimed on his insurance for a new one. The company sent him a certain amount of Curry's/Comet vouchers so he could select his own, and we picked this one. I'm not a computer expert, and he knows a lot more than me and I know he would've have pick one with rubbish specifications. It had lots of internal memory, which is what I think initially attracted him to it. I won't go into many more of the specs because I don't really understand, and they can be found easily on any website anyway. The ... more
