My previous laptop was an insurance job so it arrived as a Hewlett Packard and that was all I knew. Whilst the demise of any electrical object is always a sad occasion - I felt my laptop was a personal friend and thus when it developed serious motherboard malfunction, I decided that I would purchase a new friend for the old laptop (rather like obtaining a new puppy when old yellow's on his way out) and transfer the information before it was lost in the electrical ether.
The search for my new best friend began - luckily, my other half works in IT (I have no idea what this job title entails but he knows stuff about computers) and I learnt quite a lot - mostly that if I wanted a laptop for £300 it was probably going to be shit. Now I'm sure PC World wouldn't have told me that in such unadulterated terms and because I always listen to him indoors, I upped my limit to £400 (turns out this wasn't enough either and now we'll be eating Tesco Value for the next month). I was also informed that I would be buying a Dell because it's the law - or something similar to that such as Dell were the best. My previous laptop was an insurance job so it arrived as a Hewlett Packard and that was all I knew. Apparently, whatever laptop I was to purchase would be better than the old one which was why I chose the basic Dell.
I looked at the Dell website where they were cheaper and because I'm a clumsy/unlucky twit I thought I should get their extended 3 year warranty thing for £70, however, I'm also a tight ass and after much consideration and deliberation (consuming most of a fortnight where I wittered about the pros and cons of warranty, delivery, colour) I decided that PC World were cheapest and had the green one available for instant collection. Thus, the unlucky other half was sent merrily on his way to the aforementioned shop (stupid idea as he also purchased a number of items for himself, dammit) where he handed over £449 pounds of my hard earned cash and liberated a few of the moths in his own wallet too.
Finally onto the actual laptop: Due to the fact that the specs mean zip to me, I'll describe my laptop in laygirl terms.
Design outside: The most important aspect is of course the colour - I chose green not only because PC World had a choice of 3 (red and blue being the other two) but because on the advert it looked cool - fickle aren't I? It turns out it looks nowt like the telly depicted it as rather than being a bright vibrant jade it's more of a light pea green similar to the ipod colour. Not that I was upset - I'm not redecorating the living room just so it fits in. The other thing is that it's some weird rubbery material that shows up all fingermarks but is strangely comforting to stroke.
Design inside: The inside is quite pretty really - I wanted a black inside but it's silver. I did cry a little but then I got over it. This may sound stupid but the Enter key is not the furthest button to the right and I keep pressing page down instead - a minor irritation but don't let it dissuade you from a purchase of this fine machine. There's an exciting little extra button that means instead of booting up the laptop, you merely press this and your media centre alone is accessible. Can't say I've used it properly because I love tinternet but should I want to sit down and look at my piccies then I guess this is a great feature. One thing I particularly like is, above the keyboard there's a row of touch sensor button things that control play/pause/rewind/fast forward/mute/sound up and sound down which is so much easier than moving the mouse over the function you want. The mouse bit is below the keyboard; it has a left and right button and to scroll down or left and right you use the touchpad which is so much better than those crappy joystick things that some have in the middle of the keyboard.
Ports and other bits you can stick things into: There are 4 USB ports - 2 on either side of the laptop but one above the other which is great as you can have ipod charging and two memory sticks swapping info at the same time. On the left is the hole for the mains charger and the VGA one which is great - plug into tv and watch downloaded films from laptop - if you're lucky enough for it to matter there's a HDMI port too. There's a modem hole and a LAN hole and an IEEE1934a thing which I think is firewire - since I've never used any of these I can't comment on them but it's nice to know they're there. On the right side there is the DVD/CD thing which seems a little flimsy but I've not broken it yet. There's also a hole for a mouse but god knows why you'd want a mouse on a laptop when there's one built in. On the front there's the headphone jacks, a microphone one and the clever little card reader that takes SD/MMC/MS/Pro.
Speed & Storage: It is very fast in loading pictures and opening programs which is great cos patient, I am not - this is apparently a combination of the processor (Intel Core 2 Duo T5550) and the memory (2GB). It has a 250GB hard drive capacity which is fine for me - I've got films, ipod contents and tons of photos which has only used about 40GB anyway. The speed with which it reads the DVDs and CDs is very good too - there's no sitting around waiting as it seems to pop up within a couple of seconds. I've not burnt any because I don't need to (and possibly because last time I tried it I buggered up my i-tunes (it's a skill, actually)).
Software included: I don't care what my brother says, so far I like Vista (Windows Vista Home Premium) as it's user friendly and quite pretty. It's got MS Works which is a waste of space so the supposedly 'better' half put Office 2003 on. It also comes with Roxio Creator DE - CD/DVD burning software that I've not used.
Sights and Sounds: The 15.4" Widescreen Truelife display is excellent - all the colours are really bright and my pictures look brilliant. It has 5.1 Intel Sound which isn't all that great to be honest; it's tinny and the bass is virtually non-existent - it's no better than my old one which is pretty disappointing.
Other Stuff: The built-in wireless is very easy to use even for me and there's the 'Exclusive Dell Wi-fi catcher' which enables you to check for wireless networks without even turning the computer on. This laptop came with a built in 2MP webcam that I've not used and probably never will - usually when I'm sitting here writing this rubbish I'm not looking my best and lord knows that's not a pretty sight. It's most definitely not the lightest nor the smallest laptop in the world but I always sit with it on my lap and I've not lost circulation in my legs yet. The battery has about 3 hours in it and has a handy Velcro bit to wrap up the cable.
That's it I've written nearly 1300 words on a very nice laptop that although a little pricey, is definitely worth it, very attractive and highly recommended (by me).

PS: I've a confession to make - ciao wanted to know if the manual was any good but naturally I've not even opened it so I put good because if it's anything like the machine itself, then it must be. PPS: I've noticed other reviews stating that there is an S-video out which is in fact the mouse port that I mentioned. There is also the option for a travelock - a Kensington Lock which is a security feature of most laptops. AND, Dell do not only sell online - as I put I got mine at PC World and good old QVC have them occasionally but if you do buy direct at least you get to choose the specs you want.

...know, an unusual thing with Dell is that they only sell laptops online, and all products can be fully customised to meet your specifications. For around £329 you can buy the base level specifications of an Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T1400(1.73Ghz), 2Gb RAM and a 120Gb hardrive. More than sufficient for an entry level laptop. However these specifications can be customised up to a 2Ghz processor, 4GB RAM and a massive 250Gb hardrive. This would ... ...add-ons include a built in 2MP webcam (£20 extra), a larger capacity battery and a Truelife (glossy finished) screen.
For the purpose of the review, my laptops specs are: 2.00Ghz Processor, 3Gb RAM and 120Gb Hardrive. I have the built in webcam, and the plain matte screen.
Physical Features
The Inspiron is a sophisticated looking laptop, despite being a little bit on the bulky side. Its dimensions are 14.05"x10.08"x1.0-1.48" (its wedged shaped) ...

The Dell website is always stocked up with new drivers should any bugs have been found, and friends that have had to send things back after a year or two have found the support team very helpful. An essential thing to buy is the extended warranty; it will ensure the computer lasts you a long time. Another thing I bought was the Dell Remote - this is available when you are customising what you want. This is really great, ... ...a problem happens, as is inevitable with computers, they have had little support from who they bought it from or the manufacturer. I would buy a Dell again! PS there are two headphone sockets if you are watching something with a friend on a train or something - Brill! ...

I got hold of this laptop last year, after my boyfriend spilt coke over his previous laptop and then claimed on his insurance for a new one. The company sent him a certain amount of Curry's/Comet vouchers so he could select his own, and we picked this one. I'm not a computer expert, and he knows a lot more than me and I know he would've have pick one with rubbish specifications. It had lots of internal memory, which is what I think initially attracted ... ...the specs because I don't really understand, and they can be found easily on any website anyway. The reason why I selected this laptop however, was because it looked nice. It's a wide screen laptop, and as the bottom half with the keyboard obviously is the same length of the screen, it means that the keyboard itself is a lot bigger than most other laptops I've seen. I bought this Laptop for the purpose of doing my course work. I thought to myself, yeah its cheap but it looks good and it will obviously do fine for my College work ! Well after about an hour of playing around with it the only word is … Wow ! ! The laptop is not only cheap it is by far the best computer system I have bought ! It looks wow, it works, wow, and the features … WOW !!! The webcam and the software that comes on the laptop for the webcam ... ...asked for much better never mind expected !
The last computer system I had, had a built in mike, as does this one and the difference is astounding ! I can be in the hall, speaking quietly and the person I am having a video call with is able to hear me loud and clear ! I was very impressed !

After a lot of researching, I just got a Trust Retractable Optical Mini Pink Mouse for my new DellInspiron1525 laptop. The mouse looks great!!! The colour is lovely! It is small but a very good size for a laptop mouse! It has a very comfortable feel when using it, the scroll is good. It doesnt need any mouse mat. I just use it on the inside surface of the laptop and it works fantastically! It is very light, and it doesnt need any batteries, just plug the usb side into the laptop and it works straight away. It would have been even better if it can be used wirelessly as well! but for £10 it is good value and great product! It matches any pink laptop amazingly. ...
