Dell Inspiron 1525 is a very good choice for the price asked for around $850.

Design and looks: Dell introduced Dell Inspiron 1520 which was a similar to Inspiron 1525, but was bulky, heavy and unattractive laptop. But Dell inspiron 1525 is smaller, slimmer (height 1 - 1.48)and almost half a pound lighter than 1520 (weight 5.9 lbs). There are 4 more cover designs available for 1525 in addition to 8 color options in other dell laptops.

Screen: The screen is a 15.4" WXVGA screen which looks stunning. The upper vertical viewing angle good, and the colors of the screen does not invert at lower viewing angles.

Keyboard, touchpad and media controls: The keyboard keys have excellent cushions which will make the typist feel comfortable. the tochpad has a good travel and cushion though i feel like they made a bit too much of a clicking noise when pressed. The touchpad has a scroll area and the textured feel is very good. A series of media buttons are with blue backlight are located above the keyboard and they blue backlight goes of after a fraction of a second after being pressed and it does not give an irritation to the screen viewer.

Features and ports: There is a built in HDMI (high definition media port) which is an excellent option for those users who want digital video output. S-Video and VGA slots are also there. I Think with the firewire, 4 USB ports, media card reader, 2 headphone jacks, microphone jack, Express card slot and Ethernet port the owner of Inspiron 1525 is well equipped port wise. 4 USB ports in a small, thin and light Inspiron is worth praise.

Speakers: The speakers quality is acceptable for a notebook without a built in subwoofer. They get loud enough but there is little distortion in the sound. But that is acceptable, The speakers are located above the media buttons on the keyboard area.

Performance: The Inspiron 1525 has a 2.0 GHz core 2 duo processor, with a 2 GB DDR2 Ram (which can be upgraded to 4GB). and 120 GB 5400 rpm sata hard disk. These specifications makes it a fast speed notebook laptop. It will meet up most of the users requirement but not for those who would like to use this machine for gaming purpose.

Heat and Noise: The fan of Inspiron 1525 do a reasonable job to keep the machine to work under control in a situation where the system is under load. But unfortunately the noise of the fan in the machine i think is the issue of the machine. The noise is loud and the air blown out by the fan is significantly hot.

Battery Life:The 6 Cell Li-Ion battery provides excellent bettery life for the 1525 notebook. Running with vista's power in high performance mode with the maximum brightness and wireless on The battery delivers 2 hour 54 min. Thats an excellent battery performance!!

Well, overall, the Dell inspiron 1525 is an excellent budget notebook with good looks and solid performance. It's not recommended for gaming but a user will be really satisfied with the machine in doing everyday computer tasks with ease. And it looks good while doing them!!
