Main criticism, is that the Mousepad occasionally becomes unresponsive , jittery or freezes for a short time. This might be something which is a common problem, as I had read this in another review before I bought the PC. I wonder if Dell are aware of this issue, where an updated driver might resolve, or is it simply a design problem with the pad itself. Sometimes breathing onto my finger will help, so if you have sweaty fingers, you may not have so many problems! A solidly built and attractive machine, albeit rather heavy. Not recommended for on the road use. But I only bought it as opposed to a desktop, so I can get away from the kids around the house, so not a problem for me. I bought this PC in particular for the 17" widescreen, but I don't think i would have really missed it as for surfing most websites are optimised for normal screens, however its great for watching DVD films and when opening and comparing 2 documents side by side. Nice responsive keyboard. Large PC has room for a number keyboard, great for simple calculations and accounting. I was impressed with the User Manual, in particular on how to access internal componentry for upgrading such as memory. I bought an additional Bluetooth card to transfer files to the various mobile phones our family has. No problem fitting it, and getting it working. I do occasionally accidentally press the Media buttons on the front of the machine as I rest the palms of my hands whilst typing, but other than the buttons lighting up nothing happens, as I don't play any media whilst I work. A quiet operating machine, perhaps because the heatsink is so effective that a fast noisey fan is not necessary. When demanding applications are running, you can feel the hot air coming out the side of the machine when resting your left hand on the table. Some reviews criticise the slightly left offset mousepad, but I did not find this a problem at all, as it is correctly located in relation to the main keyboard, so as your hands rest whilst typing, the pad is exactly between both thumbs. I have found the SD card reader particularly useful for transferring photos off our digital camera. Overall I am very pleased with the machine, especially good value when I bought it from PC World with a sale offer price of £399 Aug 98.

Advantages: Elegant look, onboard numeric keypad, fast processor, large 17 inch screen Disadvantages: Vista installed on it, weight and the touchpad that not always reacts properly
