Disadvantages Disadvantages Weight & Size, Creaking Plastic, Clicky Mouse buttons. "B" Wireless instead of "G"

I bought this laptop to replace my previous dell, an inspiron 2500. What an improvement it was too. After using my inspiron 2500 for some time, I became disappointed with its ageing appearance and comparatively poor performance, so the search for a replacement began. I looked at a fair few laptops, but this one just seemed to catch my eye more than the others did, offering in some cases better than desktop performance for a reasonable price. ----------Look & Design---------- Though it may not be the smallest laptop, the overall design is good. The laptop is finished in a grey/silver colour ... more

Advantages Advantages Full size laptop with 'netbook' performance, very cheap to buy now.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lacks some of the most recent features of modern units

Around ten years since it was announced, and five years since the last review, the Dell 8600 is still worth looking at – as long as it’s for the right reasons. The It industry is obsessed with smaller, faster, more features, but price points seem remarkably resilient. When the 8600 was first produced it was at the lower-middle end of the performance range, and commanded a price accordingly – around £750 I believe. It provided a reasonable range of ‘current’ features which still make it a desirable ‘second best’ system, and by modern standards offers ‘netbook’ performance in a ‘full size’ ... more

Advantages Advantages Heavy duty usage, graphics

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Bulky

The mobile technology of centrino is proably one of the most essential feature one should look for when buying a laptop now. Wireless technology is taking over and this model just suits it all. It has a exceptional 17 inch screen which makes it exceptionally big and bulky for a laptop. I am a hardcore graphics user and i upgraded to 512 DDR RAM which STILL doesn't give me what a desktop would, however it is just a laptop and one shouldn't expect it to perform as powerful as a desktop, ever. Inspiron 8600 is catered for those with high graphic usage potential, I'm not talking about those who ... more

Advantages Advantages Wide screen, Stunning graphics, Nice look and feel. Very fast

Disadvantages Disadvantages No PS/2 Slots, more USB ports needed

I bought this laptop for use in my PhD study. I was looking for a Desktop replacement verging on a mobile notebook. After spending a number of hours in shops and on the internet viewing different computers from different companies, this one really caught my eye. The specifications were exactly what i was looking for, and Dell lets you customize many of the hardware components which was a plus. Also when i bought this one, there was an offer for free delivery and double memory. Even without that for the same specification there wasnt another company that could match the price of this laptop. As ... more

Advantages Advantages Good Value for money

Disadvantages Disadvantages Perhaps not advanced enough for PC enthusiasts

I got this laptop in december 2004 - it was intended as an 18th birthday present that i would be able to take to university the following september and i was originally going to buy it just before going to uni, but one look at the dell website and i couldnt wait to take this laptop home! It set me back around £800 - but for this i got the free delivery, carry case and a printer (the printer was part of a promotion at the time). The computer was delivered just two days after ordering - seven days earlier than quoted. The delivery men were very polte and helpful. The inspiron 8600c is a mid ... more
