...best bit about buying from Dell is the fact you can customise just about everything. I upgraded the processor speed (2 x 2.16Ghz in a laptop!) and got a gig of RAM. It came as standard with 100Gb hard drive and a nVidia GeForce Go 7900GS video card.
My only gripe was that it comes preloaded with loads of trial software, but that's easily removed. I actually used the McAfee 90 day trial suite. Hey, three months free? Nice.
Onto performance, this ... ...and yes, the pretty side lights do add to the cool factor. The screen resolution is 1920 x 1200, so will play most games at their highest settings. Games that I've heard need high end desktop power play no problem.
The dual core means it multi-tasks well. Playing games while doing a virus scan and downloading all at the same time is not an issue. Also, as it's an XPS, you get dedicated phone support with proper games advice, not that I've ever needed ...

...with all Dell products the XPS is customisable so you can upgrade components to your specification before buying!
My personal comment to potential buyers is that this is a big laptop, it is worth thinking about it before buying, Dell do alot of laptops that may be more suitable. ...

I have owned the XPS for a year now, If you're a hard-core gamer looking to play the newest games at the highest settings, this is one of the best systems on the shelves at the moment.
I spend quite a lot of the time on the move due to my job, I enjoy playing games but what use would a Desktop PC sat at home be while I'm hardly ever there? Then I came across the XPS M1710, which buying on line allows you to setup your own specifications before purchasing. ... ...like I am, you will be willing to put this on your shopping list, but I must admit at the time of entering my bank number for the purchase, I did cringe a little but now I've had it a while and have enjoyed my gaming through this technical wonder, I haven't looked back!
