Using a laser printer instead of a normal standard injet printer is great, there a lot faster than normal inkjet printers, there a lot more reliable and can carry on printing for ages without you worrying whether the things going to blow up or over heat or not. But most importantly of all, they have such better print quality, the ink stands out amongst the page which is what gives you that shiny ink and picture pages and it makes documents and pictures not only look great quality, but very professional too.
This is why companies use them, so that their printed documents look a lot more professional, however all this does come at a price. These are known as office printer for a reason, they tend to be too big and clumpy for a home printer, and also there a lot dearer and it was very hard to buy one cheaper than about £300 till recently.
This also has network connectivity built in, so it is wireless. You would really expect this in an office printer anyway, but its simply enough to set up and even easier to use as it means you don’t ever have to worry about connecting the two things by wires all the time.
To change the ink cartridge in this printer is pretty simple, you only have to press a button on the side of the printer which releases the front panel of the printer. You can then easily just put in the cartridge and your ready to go. A cartridge does come with this printer however this is only the standard one but still does 3000 pages. You can however buy the larger cartridge which is double the capacity and can manage a pretty amazing 6000 pages.
Its quite a compact design, basically a black and silver cube with a few slots missing out of it. I wouldn’t say it looks great, but it doesn’t look horrible and at the end of the day it’s a printer, it does what its meant to do, and it does it well, very well in fact so a little compromise on the design isn’t really a lot of compromise at all.
One thing it isn’t amazing on is printing pictures. Sure they do come off good quality, and the pictures are sharp however they just seem to come out a little dark as opposed to a good photo inkjet printer that have better colour contrast and print better photos, saying that though, I presume most people wont be buying this printer to just print photos on anyway, and its better quality in black ink and in coloured text and logos is still a lot better than inkjet printers.
The printer in itself is really fast, dell claims this one can do about 25 pages a minute, however in testing I actually managed to get nearly 30 pages out of this, and even got 31 pages on the third time I tested it, so perhaps 30 pages per minute is more accurate for this printer.
All of this great quality and even greater speeds does however come at a price, and quite a high price for a printer. You should be able to get one of these for a bout £100, or maybe cheaper if you look around for one, most inject of good quality are about £50, and even though this printer in double the price of a good inkjet printer, I think it is also double the print quality and a lot better speeds than most inkjet printers are too. So this is a great printer to buy if you do have to money to spend on a decent printer to have at home, its also fantastic for a office or home office too.
