One thing that Dell tend to do is preload their pc/laptops with lots of freebies, such as free trials of mcafee etc. You can get them to not install this but only if you specify it at the time of ordering. Otherwise be prepared to spend an hour or so uninstalling the stuff you dont want!

The screen is a good size, and very sharp, bright and clear.
Power seems to last pretty well, sitting on my desk it lasted 6 hours quite happily.
It comes with 1GB installed upgradeable to 2GB RAM, which is more than enough for most users. Heavy power users may find this a sturggle, but our users are happy :)

We have just purchased two of these for work, and as always you cannot fault dell on the hardware.

We went for the XP version, which I would recommend over Vista for now, as Vista is a bit more resource hungry then XP and seems to perform less well for most things. XP is stable and pretty secure now, and most business will wait a while before going to Vista.
It does come with the slightly slower PATA drives, as opposed to SATA - but again unless you are a power user you will probably not notice any appreciable difference in performamnce.
Built in Wifi as standard, bluetooth is avilable as a option. Beware though that if you have both bluetooth and wifi operational at the same time performance on both is terrible as they share the same frequencies. One or the other is fine though. Fast pickup of the wireless access points in the office and fast connection as it has 802.11g.

Advantages: Light, portable, built in 3G, robust, full size keyboard Disadvantages: Not the most attractive design, battery life ok, but nowhere near quoted figures
I've have a company Dell D430 for about 6 months now, and its by far the best laptop I've ever used. My commute is over an hour each way by train, so the built in 3G is a god send. The overall size is ideal - plenty big enough to use for extended periods, and have a 1280x800screen resolution, yet its very light and fits in a small courier bag. The keyboard is full size, and it also provides a track pad as well as a 'nipple' for cursor control. Battery ... ...it ever?) but it last a good 3 1/2 hours or so with constant average usage. Performance wise, its no gaming laptop, but for most people its more than adequate, with office apps, web browsing and even a bit of photo-shopping causing no slow downs on processing. Mine has a mere 1Gb of ram, but as its Windows XP and not the dreaded Vista, so this provides adequate memory for multiple applications. Overall, I'd recommend this laptop to anyone who wants ...
