I have had the PC for less than 1 year and it was ordered off the Dell website - www.dell.co.uk when our company upgraded a few PC's.
Our company had ordered from Dell for many years. We were always happy with their products and services, especially their superb Technical Support. So, it was only natural that we chose them for our new PC's.
I researched the range ... ...Dell products are not available to purchase from the shops, so all orders have to be made either via their Sales line or through their website.
Dells website is available for everyone to use. However, their ranges and prices differ for Business Customers so browsed for products for medium & large businesses. There are also options for Small Businesses, Home & Home Office Customers and Public Sector Customers.

I researched the range of PC's that Dell had to offer, via their website. Dell products are not available to purchase from the shops, so all orders have to be made either via their Sales line or through their website.

I was able to browse the many PC's Dell had to offer, and decided upon the Dell Optiplex range, due to ease of use and the latest technology. The range was also quite cheap (prices starting from around £379).
After deciding upon the GX270, we were then able to customise the PC's we wanted to order. This included choosing a Small Mini Tower, a Mini Tower or a Desktop. We chose the Small Mini Tower - it generally had the same specifications as the Mini Tower, except it was smaller.
I was then able to look closer at what the GX270 had to offer. The main features are:
Small Mini-Tower - Midnight Grey colour H: 42.6cm/16.75in W: 18.0cm/7.13in D: 44.7cm/17.61in Intel Pentium 4 Processor 560 with HT Technology (3.60 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB) Microsoft Windows XP Professional including Licence 40gb of memory (my old PC had previously only had 8 gb!) 512mb of RAM (256mb of this was free from Dell) 3.5in 1.44MB Floppy Drive 48x/32x/48x CD/RW Drive Internal Speakers
To go with the snazzy looking tower, we also chose a Dell 17" Midnight Grey Flat Panel Monitor and a Dell USB Keyboard & Mouse.
To ensure that our PC's were covered, should anything go wrong, we ordered 3year Next Business Day Onsite Support - this mean that should anything go wrong with the PC, a technician would attend our site the very next day to resolve the problem. We also purchased 3year Gold Technical Support. This meant that we could also ring their Technical Support line should we have any errors, and they could guide us through the problem to try and resolve it.
We initially ordered 3 PC's from Dell and the shipping price for this was £75.00. The total per PC, including all of the above and instruction manuals was £645.00.
However, typically not everyone will want to order what we ordered. Although some things, such as Windows and processor are compulsory, some are not. For this reason, I have listed the individual prices:
3.5in Floppy Drive - £20.00 17" Flat Panel Monitor - £190.00 Internal Speakers - £10.00 USB Keyboard - £10.00 USB Mouse - £10.00 3Y NBD (Next Business Day On-site ) - £30.00 (The PC does come with Standard 1 year Next Business Day Support) 3Y Technical Support - £29.00
So far, I have had absolutely no problems with my GX270 PC. It's fast and efficient and perfect for my Accounting Programs - my previous PC was continually freezing whilst I was in the middle of month end!
The good thing with Dell is being able to customise your PC - you don't have to buy a monitor to go with the PC, you can add things you do need and remove things you don't. They also offer items such as Antivirus and Printers.
Their service is superb - we have a designated Account Manager who I am able to email orders to. My order is acknowledged promptly and I am kept fully updated. Many Dell PC's are only made when an order is placed. Therefore, delivery is around 5 days. On occasions, we have received orders later than this, but we been kept informed by our Account Manager.
Dells website often has offers on, such as 'Free Delivery' or 'Double Memory' so it is always handy to check their website before placing an order.
I would definitely recommend Dell and in partucular the GX270 - it would be perfect for home or office. They have a good range of PC's to suit everyone and their prices are moderate as well.

Advantages: Fantastic specifications and performance Disadvantages: Weight and USB slots in the front
...ago for £500 . The dell website allowed me to choose different specifications. I chose to go with a 19 inch flat monitor because there was not much space in my study room to place a bigger table to carry the classical big monitors.
At the time of purchase, I could choose £300 worth of additional features for free, so I went for Creative surround speaker system and DVD burner with the computer. The colour of all the components including the monitors, ... ...exactly need. Especially on the Dell website, this is really an exercise of time and patience. My suggestion is that once you decide upon the basic model, then you can add the extra features depending on your budget. Secondly, Dell comes out with great offers now and then with respect to freebies (like extra hard drive, DVD burners or speakers etc). Look out for these times when you have decided to buy a desktop.
