Buying a printer should be simple, a basic system that prints on paper. Todays world however is complex meaning the newest technology also comes with the same complexity that is rarely needed. Buying something as simple as a printer can lead to potential money in the bank or a full financial disaster.
First things first is the actual printing. Yes its scanning and faxing capability's are exciting additions although theres no point getting away from the fact that you have bought a printer to PRINT. The good news is that the Dell Photo All In One Printer 922 is exceptional at this enabling you to have a fine quality of print whenever you may need it. The bad news is that unfortunately the print speed is quite slow. Anyone with busy schedules and a heavy work load would become increasingly frustrated and opt to throw this sluggish machine out of the window. It seems dell have concentrated more on the quality of print than the efficiency of it.
Impressive, though, is the preview option available through the All-in-One Center software which lets you scan, fax, copy, edit photos and perform other tasks from your PC desktop. This makes the system very easy to use making the most complex of things dazzle in simplicity. The copying is the best i have ever seen on a computer allowing you to produce up to 99 copies all at once. The scanning is also an immense feature. By contrast to its sluggish printing, the Dell 922 scanned quickly and did it to almost perfection. The limited fax ability is however another let down and anyone buying a printer primarily for this feature should be put off by its limited capability's.
In terms of ink although ink costs can soar with an inkjet, the Dell 922's high-yield ink cartridges offer reasonably priced colour ink and somewhat pricier black ink. Black ink cartridges coming at around £17 and colour cartridges at around £30. Mine haven't been replaced in 6 months and i use my printer regularly.
Overall if your dream printer has a fast scanner and produces high quality prints this is the printer you need. However people wanting overall speed and fax capability's your money is better spent else where.
