Dell are by far my favourite brand of computer and computer equipment. (Except printers!!!), and i wasnt disapointed when i came to buy one of their flatscreen monitors. I toyed with the idea of getting a screen as large as 19" and then toyed again when it came to choosing the ultra-sharp model, but chose to go for it anyway!

The only let down that i will say about this was the ordering process - its an absolute nightmare trying to get Dell to deliver to a different address (unless the second address is registered on the credit card you used to buy it), and in the end i went and picked it up from the depot! Anyways, back to topic!

The Dell monitor was easy to assemble, just a case of clipping the monitor screen onto the stand. The stand is very nice, it is the same midnight-gray colour as many of the computers you can now buy, and obviously matches the monitor. The base of the stand is a silver colour but all in all looks very good. The stand itself has a vew little features that i think are worth mentioning: it can rotate the monitor through 90 degrees to give you either a Landscape or Portrait monitor. Very good if you work a lot with word processing applications as well as viewing the web. It also tilts and pivots, allowing you to put it at an angle that is comfertable with you. It has a bracket at the back for cable management, helpful to keep the desk tidy, and also the height is adjustable.

Anyway enough going on about the stand, what about the monitor!

When i put this monitor on my desk, i thought that it was absolutely huge! The viewable area (19" diagonally), gives excellent picture quality and for the techie people out there gives a resolution of 1280x1024 pixels. Pixels are small dots on the screen that can change colour which makes up the image you see on your monitor, therefore the more pixels you have the better the quality of the image on the screen.
The colours are vibrant, and as a game player, i really love this monitor. The 20ms response time means that the monitor transfers the image from the computer to the screen in 20ms. This is not the quickest I have seen on the market, however, i cant really complain about it!
The contrast ratio of this monitor is 1000:1, this is the difference between the lightest light and the darkest dark. 1000:1 is very good!

The monitor supports bot VGA and DVI input, and this is dependant on what graphics card(s) you have in you machine. (It will always be one of these two). It also acts as a USB2 hub. One connection going to the PC allows four further connections to be made via the monitor.

There is also an accessory for this monitor called the soundbar. This clips to the bottom of the monitor, and is basically a speaker. Great for small desks! This costs approx £35.

The weight of the monitor is quite heavy, and care does have to be taken when first getting it out of the box, as this almost caught me out.
The price of the monitor is quite expensive, at over £300 for a screen, this wont be for everyone. Best to buy it when it is on offer.

I hope this review has helped you even if its just a little. Any questions please ask, i will always get a reply to you.

Sounds good but I'm still waiting for the price of 1600x1200 resolution panels to come down... I couldn't go back to 1280X1024. Sam.
