A couple of years ago I was given a 24inch CRT monitor when one of my friends upgraded to the forerunner of the 2407. A 24inch crt is quiet a big beast, totally dominated my desk, but it did true high definition (1080p) 1920x1080 which meant having a huge desktop. Once you have had that much desktop real estate you cant really go back. I decided if I was going down to buy a tft it had to be capable of this.
TFT monitors have dropped dramatically in price over the last few years though at the top of the range where you easily pay twice to three times more for the highest resolution. Dell is a leader in low cost panels, undercutting the competition by several hundred pounds.
This is the latest generation of the 24inch series it has an better panel giving very fast screen refresh. I haven't encountered any problems with ghosting (after images on fast moving graphics), I have played movies and games without problems. The panel is very bright, next to it the old model (and my Apple Powerbook for that matter) look dark and washed out.
In the box I got a dvi cable, usb (for the built in usb hub and memory card reader), and dsub cables so no need to buy anything else. There is a small manual (I didn’t actually look at it) and a cd.
The CD contains the drivers Windows XP needed to be manually told to use the driver from the CD though detecting it as a standard plug and play. Its worth getting the driver on as it has a colour profile file which seems to have made the colours a little more vibrant. No if you don’t care about such details the installation is a piece of cake. Just plug the cable from dvi to dvi (or dsub to dsub) depends on your graphics card.
There are also S-Video, component and composite video adaptors, so you have plenty of options to plug video devices in. There is even picture in picture though this only works between either the computer ports and the analogue ones, so you cans picture in picture a singnal from dsub into a dvi input.
The inclusion of 4 USB ports and a card reader is a neat trick, giving you the option to plug in devices like cameras and usb memory sticks without bending ad fiddling behind your pc. The card reader accepts most types of cards, like compact flash, SD, MMC, Sony memory stick.
The screen itself is mounted on a plinth and is adjustable in height tilt and swivel. You can also rotate the screen 90degrees into portrait aspect if you wish! The design is pretty industrial and I think nice though I prefer the Apple HD monitors silver look. The Dell is far more mobile and produces a better picture though for a lower price.
Overall this is a stunning monitor great for high end gamers and computer professional.
Advantages: Clear, practical, sharp, bright Disadvantages: Menu system not so good.
...other monitors on the market. Dell have always made top quality monitors, and I can say this is definitely a brand a feel comfortable with knowing that what I buy is of the highest quality.
The monitor came well packaged, and came with easy step by step instuctions as well as cables, driver discs etc. It was very easy to set up and really I cannot find many monitors that look quite so stunning sitting on your desktop. The base that the monitor sits ... ...which as one of it's features, can be rotated 90 degrees so that it sits in a portrait mode. This is also handy for putting all the cables into the back as on most monitors this can be quite awkward. The monitor comes with various input ports, so you can plug in your PC as well as your xbox. The screen menu is easy to use, but I feel it could perhaps have included a few more options.
As for the display, it is immense. I'm a keen gamer so when playing ...

Advantages: Plenty of ports and connectors, including a built-in flash card reader Disadvantages: Needs calibration to get best colour - a yellow cast straight out of the box was readily correctable.
...was wary of buying a Dell monitor, but as it had a glowing review from MacUser magazine I went ahead. Quick delivery from Dell, and I was ready to plug in just 24 hours after placing the order. This monitor needs a DVI connection and a graphics card that will drive the 1920 x 1200 resolution - most modern cards should achieve that. The colours looked a bit yellowish when first installed, but I already owned a Spyder 2 Pro colour profiler, and within ... ...balance. The actual LCD panel used is apparently identical to that used in Apple's own 24" Studio monitor, but rather cheaper here!
The ultra-wide format is excellent for editing images in PhotoShop or for editing video as there is plenty of space to fit in the palettes, timelines etc. There is a myriad of connection ports around its edge: I particularly like the Flash Card reader as it means I don't need a separate one, though sometimes it fails ...

Advantages: HD RESALUTION , LOTS OF INPUTS, HDCP Disadvantages: NOT A TV ASWEEL
I don't have a bad thing to say about this monitor. its one of the best scrren ive seen , it also has the advantage of have 1080p resalution which is ture HD unlike most tv/pc monitor out there on the market today ,in my opinion there really no better monitor out there.
The monitor supports PIP and PBP. You can also adjust the size of secondary display in PIP mode. Switching the input source is just a button press. which is a great , if you want ... ...accepts not only analog but digital output from a PC, but also composite, component, and S-Video from consumer electronic devices such as DVD players and camcorders. Each input is clearly labeled on the back of the screen. it also has a 5 in 1 card readand four USB 2.0 ports on the left side of the screen

...my laptop is also a Dell Wide-Screen (Precision M65), this hasn't been an issue. Perhaps it might be though for someone who is trying to use a normal aspect laptop with the Wide-Screen monitor? (it might cause resolution problems when docking and undocking the laptop?)
Speaking of resolution, the range of different resolutions that you can select is unbelievable! I can now set it so fine that I can't even read the characters on the screen, and I ... ...as I can fit several documents on screen at the same time, allowing ease of comparison, multi-tasking, etc. I haven't used it for gaming/video purposes, but I would imagine that it excels here too!
Not only that, but it has seemingly endless connectivity options, to the extent that it even includes a USB2 hub on the monitor itself!
Overall, I have nothing bad to say about this monitor, and heaps of great things! ...
