A couple of years ago I was given a 24inch CRT monitor when one of my friends upgraded to the forerunner of the 2407. A 24inch crt is quiet a big beast, totally dominated my desk, but it did true high definition (1080p) 1920x1080 which meant having a huge desktop. Once you have had that much desktop real estate you cant really go back. I decided if I was going down to buy a tft it had to be capable of this.
TFT monitors have dropped dramatically in price over the last few years though at the top of the range where you easily pay twice to three times more for the highest resolution. Dell is a leader in low cost panels, undercutting the competition by several hundred pounds.
This is the latest generation of the 24inch series it has an better panel giving very fast screen refresh. I haven't encountered any problems ...
FP makes the screen seem like widescreen at first. DVDs of TV shows (like Futurama and Family Guy) will run fullscreen and be displayed impeccably. HDTV (of what little is currently available) will have you ridiculing the skin conditions of your favourite actors.
Widescreen films are displayed well and black borders are of sufficiently deep-blacks not to be obtrusive. The screen is big enough to be watched from ~1.5m away, any further and you will lose out in detailed epic views such as those in Lord of the Rings and the like. For this kind of use the Dell 2405FPW is better suited, simply for size advantage. ...
sometimes.
The backlight is slightlight uneven.
The price is quite high although not bad for the monitors size.
Mine came with no dead pixels but Dell has a customer satisfaction guarantee and you can return it as many times as you want.
Overall I'm glad I spent the extra money. Was plug and play, up and running in 5 mins. Large desktop for multi tasking having several programs running spread out over the screen. Massive resolution for gaming with amazing graphics. Large screen combine with a TV card replaced my TV. ...
