In the past i've never gone for a high end laptop but the £700 I spent was well worth the money. I had reservations about buying from Dell because I have personal experience of bad build quality from one of their earlier portable laptops, the C400. But I am more than happy with the sturdy feel of the XPS m1330.
I ordered from Dell online and received my laptop within 7 days. It came in an XPS branded box. Inside was the laptop inside a slip case and the relevant accessories; power cable, earphones, manual in a leather wallet, screen cleaning cloth and all the relevant driver CD's.
The fist thing you notice is the beauty of the laptop. Its matt black and silver aluminium finish makes it stand out as anything but a standard laptop. The aluminium also serves to give the laptop a solid feel.
The laptop is fast. It runs windows vista seamlessly. Vista is a little hard to get used to in the beginning but you soon get the hang of it. It will also cope with demanding applications and games thanks to its built in 128MB nVidia GeForce 8400M GS. Although this takes away from your battery life it truly enhances the functionality. I play Half Life 2 with no difficulties.
I mentioned the battery life, on power saver mode (setting in vista) the battery lasts around 3 hours whilst word processing or browsing the internet. Turning of the wifi switch, which is a handy feature of the laptop, will further improve this batter life. I should also mention I am using the 6-cell 56WHr, so the laptop using the 85WHr battery will be more bulky but perfect for extended portability.
One of the features I like especially is the fingerprint scanner built in just below the keyboard. It makes logging in extremely fast. The internal speakers are very good, although they are a little tinny like many laptop speakers they are better than most and they certainly are loud.
All of the extra features, such as the dedicated graphics card, which set this laptop apart from other portable laptops do add extra weight but at around 2 kg it certainly isn't too heavy for carrying in your bag.
The laptop and Windows Vista work together seamlessly. I have had it 2 months now and I have never had the laptop lock up or do anything it shouldn't. I am extremely satisfied the Dell XPS m1330 combines perfectly performance and portability,
My Specifications:
Intel® Core 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB Cache) Windows Vista® Home Premium 2GB Dual Channel 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS 160GB Hard Disk Drive Integrated Slot-Load DVD+/-RW Drive 13.3" WXGA display (1280x800, 220 nits) with a 2.0MP webcam Built in WiFi

Advantages: Excellent Screen, built-in webcam, very fast, never crashed (after 1 year, that's incredible) Disadvantages: Slightly short battery life (but can easily be upgraded for very little money)
