Heavyweight Champion of the World! 4 of 4 Ciao Users found the following review helpful

Advantages very powerful, huge graphics capability, robust

Disadvantages HEAVY!, keyboard could have been bigger

I got this laptop for work because of its power, graphics capability and looks. The core2duo processor handles most applications very comfortably, and the 512MB graphics card deals with complicated CAD software at work very well.

Heavyweight Champion of the World:
The main critiscism I have of this laptop is the size and weight. It's HUGE, measuring around 290mmx400mmx50mm. This does of course mean that you get a lovely wide screen with high resolution, but it also means that it's quite hard to find a laptop bag that it fits in! The screen quality is very good, and the widescreen makes it easy to watch movies and TV without the need for another monitor.
The keyboard is still a standard laptop-sized one, which is a shame when with a machine of this size there was plenty of room for a separate number pad.

Light and Sound Spectacular:
This laptop has a fantastic set of speakers for a portable machine, and it even has a built-in subwoofer for good bass sound. Very little distortion occurs, even at very high volumes which is impressive for a notebook PC.
There are a load of LED lights on the fan vents, the mousepad, the speaker covers and the outer case which can be made to change colour and flash in a huge variety of ways, even in time with Windows Media Player or iTunes, which is cool. The overall look of the XPS is very funky, with a machined aluminium cover that can be replaced with a variety of different colours.

A Tool for any Job:
The M1710 is covered in USB ports (2 on the left hand side and 4 on the back) making it easy to plug in a whole range of accessories. Laptops I've had in the past have always been lacking in this respect, so I was impressed when I looked at the spec. The built-in card reader is very useful for uploading photos from digital cameras etc.
There is a CD/DVD writer built in as well, which can come in very handy.

Summing Up:
If you want a desktop-replacement laptop, then I would recommend this because of its performance
