Before getting new windows fitted we suffered from massive amounts of condensation in our home, so much so that damp had actually appeared in the corners of the room where water had run down the wall. Frankly after paying so much for a home I didn't fancy decorating for it all to be ruined while we waited to save up for the windows. My dad suggested a dehumidifer and we bought this one for £85 as it is small enough to sit in the corner of any room without dominating the eyeline.
While it might me small and inobtrusive it weighs a ton even when the drum is empty. There is some seriously heavy motor packed within the engine room of this beast so trying to move it when the 10 litre drum is full is near on impossible.
What can I say about the DEM 10 but it is the best thing I have bought for my home in a very long time. When plugged in and working away it gives off a very quiet humming sound that after a few minutes seems to fade into the background and within 5 minutes of starting it up you can start to see the water that has been extracted from the air in the transparent drum. We used it for 3 months in our living room which is open plan with the kitchen whilst we saved up for new double glazing and condensation was banished to rooms where the suction of the DEM 10 couldn't reach. After a few weeks the damp patches cleared up completely and we felt comfortable enough to decorate the room.
After getting the windows replaced there is now no condensation in our house unless we have the washerdryer working, but all we have to do it switch this baby on and the air is drained of any moisture quickly, efficiently and best of all, quietly.
Well worth £85. If you suffer from condensation at home or find that damp is blighting your living space you should look at the DEM 10, it is built to last and is fantastic. Easy to use and clean you just can't go wrong.
