First of all, I must say I've been a customer of Demon for the last ten years or so, the first eight or so as a dial-up user then switched to Broadband (on their Home 2000 package). As a pioneering ISP in the UK, the company consistently provided an excellent and trouble-free service during the...

ProA good choice for Mac users

ConsSome teething difficulties setting up

A long time ago, when web pages were text-only and CompuServe users were stuck with e-mail addresses like 10135242846@compuserve.com, a group of people in the UK had a dream. They dreamed of offering an internet connection, hosting service and e-mail package for 'A Tenner A Month'; a ridiculously...

I have been with Demon Internet for a few years now and have found them generally to be quite reliable. I now use their surftime package which costs £20 a month and pay another £20 to BT in order to be able to connect at any time of day without paying call charges. This is rather expensive but I...

“ADSL from hell”

Profaster connection when it happens to be available

Consoutages, horrendous lack of support

My organisation, a smallish charity, "upgraded" from Demon dial up to ADSL in January, much to my regret. We did not really have much choice - the dial up was costing a fortune in phone bills, because the modem used to stay connected most of the day; ntl only offers cable modem to home users; and...

Not for me

Proreally none I could see

Conscost - email - streaming - service

I joined demon premier-connect-plus in December having been with them some three years earlier. The old service cost £11.70 per month. The new service costs £20 per month, plus £20 per month to BT, plus nothing for your telephone calls. So you would expect something special for this sort of money...

Prook service, good software

Conscharges money for what's free elsewhere

These were one of the first ISPs (a lot longer ago than a couple of years, as someone else wrote) and were one of the best. Trouble is they just haven't moved on. Not at all. Three years ago I was paying a tenner a month for access. And that's what they're still charging - just for access. No...

ProWhen they say unlimited, they mean unlimited

ConsHavent come across any yet!

When I first heard of Demon they only provided internet connection for business, these days they are tapping into the domestic market and are making good headway....My son works for them and he hears so many complaints about other companies the mind boggles... Strangly enough I only went with...

ProFast, Stable, Excellent Helpdesk

ConsNone

In this day and age of free ISP's many would say, why stay with Demon internet and the £10 a month that it charges? Simple fast stable internet connections, free software CD's on request and 24/7 helpdesk that is charged at only the price of a BT local rate call, not like these free ISP's who...

I have been with Demon Internet for donkeys-years now. I often intended to cancel my subs when problems affected various areas of the service - as they often did in the early 'growing' stages.. I am glad now though that I did not do this. I have tried countless free (no subs) ISPs and all these...

ConsIncluded modem is useless, but free!

I purchased Demon Home Broadband a few months ago on the internet in about five minutes, and was childishly excited when the switch-on date arrived. I installed the USB modem onto my PC, which seemed to work perfectly well, but still left my Intel Mac without broadband. Obviously this wasn't on...

One of the first and still, despite the proliferation of free access companys, one of the biggest. If they where as bad as they are often painted whould they be as big? Wouldn't people leave in droves? So, some say they only provide what you can get free elsewhere. WARNING: You get what you pay...

Prohas potential, good site, good features

Conscosts a lot, pitiful technical support, don't care...

This has the potential to be a great service but has a few flaws which are really holding it back. I know several people who use Demon and they all say how great it is when it's working but they also say how difficult it is to get support. I tried really hard to get this to work but had to give...

ProNone anymore

ConsVery expensive for what is now a commodity product

Demon were never cheap but now they are prohibitively expensive. I am with them for the good line speed and the fact that I can use the line for whatever I want (no port restrictions, access to all newsgroups, running servers, bit torrent downloads, no bandwidth throttling etc). For this I am...

ProExcellent ISP

ConsThe cost!

I've been with Demon for years, and almost always found it a good service. Their Turnpike software is very impressive, and is the only one I know which allows you to have separate, private, email accounts for users on your machine (well, until Outlook Express eventually caught up.) Availability...

“Demon Internet”

published 11/07/2000

I chose Demon on the recommendation of a friend in the computer industry, who uses the service. I have tried some of the "free" ISPs but have stayed with Demon in the end because they offer a better service. You really do get what you pay for! It is very rare that I have any problems connecting...
