I bought this book after I first saw Darren Shan at the Edinburgh book festival and since then I've been hooked. I now own all the Demonata and half of the Darren Shan Saga. But back to the book in question.

The Demonata is Darren Shans second series and Lord Loss is the first book in the series.

I quite like this book. It has a simple plot, easy reading style with quite a bit of graphic horror. It is probably for readers that like to read unchallenging books as it makes for easy reading.

The black hard back cover make the whole book feel a little bit creepy.

I feel that with this book it is easy to dip in and out of it. Reading litttle bits at a time is easy. It is probably best for 9 - 14 year olds and anything older than that could find it boring.

The print is set out in a way that the actual text is very visable unlike some books. One that is not like this would be Harry Potter.

The story line follows a joung boy called Grubs who's mother, father and sister have died after being killed by Lord Loss a demon master. After this Grubs goes to live with his Uncle Dervish who knows all about Demons and tells him all about defeating them. Grubs makes friends with an older boy who turns out to have the family curse. Still with me? The family curse is that every Grady child will be turned into a werewolf except if the relatives can beat Lord Loss at a game of chess.

This makes for a fast paced, easy to read, horror book that is enjoyed by many children around the world.

Hey, good overal review but i think more could be said about the story line itself and the fact that this just leads up to the more eventfull sequals.
