Advantages: Looks great, sounds awesome, feels awesome Disadvantages: Detailed set up can be tricky - just as well it comes idiot proof!
Ok then, so I'm a lucky boy....
On my last birthday my wife decided that she wanted to treat me to a home cinema system so off we went to our local Richer Sounds store (they are VERY cheap and VERY helpful - recommended everyone pays them a visit!) with cash in hand an wangled a deal.
I got this Marantz A/VReceiver , A Yamaha surround sound speaker package and a Panasonic DVD recorder for the princly sum of £350 - a bit of a discount from the £900 RRP!
I'll be reviewing each product in turn so check out my other reviews if you want a full system checkup!
So into the review of the A/VReceiver:
1) The Theory
I wanted a reciever that not only looked good, but that also provided the output and poer to match. I've long been a fan of the Marantz range as they not only look and feel good to use, they also have the reputation ...
Advantages: Sound quality Disadvantages: Price compared to lesser rivals
**Introduction**
I am very comfortable with my Hifi Setup at the moment and will not be upgrading for a while yet. I had been in the market for a second setup and Having looked for a small second system for my bedroom I knew Denon were one of the best brands in the mini hifi system field so I felt very comfortable about choosing this one of a couple of similar Sony DAB Systems. So what comes in the unit? well as standard you get the DAB Tuner which also ...
Advantages: Perfect muscle amp, wide array of connections, ability to drive the most demanding speakers, remote control Disadvantages: Price, weight, setup, THX Ultra 2 required to bring out the best
. The film contains a very difficult sound track that includes explosions and bullets whizzing around. The Denon shrugs its shoulders and gets down to work, no problem, the effects are steered around the room as if you were in a sphere of sound.
Musical reply is average, there are certain imaging problems, instruments are not placed as preciely as they should be at this money and the bass can sound over blown and flabby even in direct stereo mode.
The receiver does have an excellent DAC, it uses the highly acclaimed AL-24 Bit decoding process, which i have to say is very impressive. Multi-channel music play back is wonderful, SACD and DVD-A is much better than CD reply, also the difference can be heard, a very rare occasion!
This amp is a wonderful piece of home cinema kit, though to be used by an expert and a very wealthy one at that it ...
