I'm sure they used to do a cradle cap cream as well. But i might be wrong.
All dentinox baby products, are specially designed for use on babies from birth. This is great, as you ... more
When Kieran was a month old, He started having a slight bit of cradle cap. But by the time he had reached four months, his head was covered. And as he has hardly any hair as it is, it look worse. I had to do something. People were looking at him funny, and friends and family began to coment. It made me feel like i was doing something wrong. So i decided to see what products were out there. Walking around tescos, i came across this product! Deninox cradel cap Shampoo. 'Well' I thought to myself, 'anything is worth a try'. So i put it in my trolley and continued to shop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What is Cradel Cap? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Basically cradel cap, is a very normal and natural thing. All babies lose dead skin cells off the scalp. But some unlucky ones lose more than others, and the tend to gather, and layer up. Causing this rather unsightly looking covering of the scalp. The long name for this is, Infantile Serborrhoeic dermatitis. Some children may also get this on other areas of their body, as a rash like area., such as, behind the ears, armpits, nappy area, and in the crease of the neck. This isn't as common. But if you are aware of a rash anywhere on your childs boby, seek medical advise ASAP.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ What causes it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's not clear what causes it. But some proffesional think it might be due to the fact that newborns, still have some of their mothers hormones in the system, which could cause the Sabaceous glands to over react. So as the dead skin cells become loose, the babies Sabaceous glands realease a greasy substance that makes th dead skin cells attach to the scalp and bulid up, instead of just falling off. So wheather this is what happens or not, is yet to be concluded.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Signs and symptoms ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Greasy , yellow, scaly patches on the scalp. Often covering the whole scalp, but sometimes just small areas. Sometimes it can be itchy, but this is not so in all cases. In most cases the baby is unaware of the problem, and it doesn't bother them at all.
~~~~~~~~~~ The Shampoo ~~~~~~~~~~ That night when kieran had his bath, i decided to try his new shampoo.
~~~~~~~~~~~ The packaging ~~~~~~~~~~~ It comes in a bottle, thats inside a box. the box is green with the name Dentinox on the front. It also has a happy little baby on the front. When you get the bottle out of the box, it is rather a plain bottle, with just the basics on. It has DENTINOX Cradle cap treatment shampoo written on the front. And the Instructions for use, ingredients, etc on the back. This is not on a label, it's printed straight onto the bottle. So you don't need to worry about bits of label coming off if you get it wet. It is a 125ml bottle and is quite small. But it's enough for what you need it for. It has a flip lid. So you don't need to worry about trying to unscrew a lid, whilst holding your baby in the bath.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Discription of shampoo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
look ~~~ When you squeeze some out on to your hand, it is clear, and comes out like a liquid.
Texture ~~~~~ Very liquidy, but doesn't actually feel very soapy. As you put it onto you hand, it turns watery. It does feel slightly oily, but not too oily.
Bubbles ~~~~~~ If you give this a rub, it doesn't lather up very much. So if when you put it in their hair, it doesn't lather. Then don't be tempted to add more. You don't need it.
Scent ~~~~~ It has a rather nice smell to it. Which is good for a treatment shampoo. I think it's meant to smell of roses. As this is one of the ingredients. but if i wasn't aware of that, i wouldn't have described it as that.
~~~~~~~~ Ingredients ~~~~~~~~ The main ingredients are: Sodium lauryl ether sulposuccinate 6% Sodium lauryl ether sulphate 2.7% But also contains: Sodium salt of coconut imidazoline, oleic acid diethanolamide, sodium chloride, rose perfume and water
~~~~~~~~~~~ About Dentinox ~~~~~~~~~~~ Dentinox is a well known company. they have been making baby medicine for over 40 years. So you know they are a good brand to use. They also make other products, such as: Colic drops Teething gel. I'm sure they used to do a cradle cap cream as well. But i might be wrong. All dentinox baby products, are specially designed for use on babies from birth. This is great, as you often find products that can't be used for the first month or so.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Directions for use ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Make sure babies head/hair is wet. You need to put a very small amount of shampoo in your hand. they suggest about half a teaspoon. You then need to gently but firmly massage the shampoo into the babies scalp. This will stimulate the cradle cap, and gradually loosen it. Rinse well. They then say for you to re do it. But i only washed the hair twice for a couple of times. Then i started only doing it once, as the cradle cap started to clear. You can continue using this even after the cradle cap has all gone. I found that if you want to put baby bath in the water, then it's best to have a jug of clean fresh water to rinse the hair. That way the baby bath won't stop you from rinsing the hair properly. But i would say to mind the eyes.There is a warning on the bottle. And i have found from kierans use, that it does sting his eyes quite badly.
~~~~~~~~~~ Does it work? ~~~~~~~~~~ YES! I had to use it for quite a few weeks to get rid of kierans cradle cap. But i think that was my own fault, as i didn't use it from the minute it started. It was quite bad before i used it. But it certainly cleared it up. We could see an improvement after the first few days. It gradually came off as i was washing, and flaked away during the day. This can be a bit annoying, as it seems to rub off on you clothes or the bedding. But at least it proved it was working.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Where can I get this? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You can buy it in most places. But here is the list that dentinox provide. Boots Superdrugs Sainsburys Tesco Asda Morrisons And lloyds the chemist. It's very easy to get. So have a look around.
~~~~ Price ~~~~ It's not cheap for a 125ml bottle. It's between : £2.25 and £2.50. But it's worth the money, as it lasts well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Would i recommend it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes! It is a great product. It's one of the few things out there that do what they say on the bottle. But as i said before. MIND THE EYES. Or there will be tears before bedtime.
Advantages: Nice smell for a medicated shampoo, works quick;y, price. Disadvantages: Can sting eyes
Dentinox contains a derivative of Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, which is found in a lot of shampoos and foaming beauty products. There has been a lot of publicity and bad press about this chemical, and if you prefer to use natural products on your baby, this understandably may not be right for you. The worst of the bad press accuses this chemical of damaging eye development, causing cataracts, building up in the ...
What I have noticed with Dentinox products is that they tend to say that you can use their products from a young age. E.g. when I had trouble with wind (not personally - the baby!) I could not get gripe water or any other remedies from newborn, but Dentinox colic drops COULD be used from newborn. Again, teething gel seemed to be from a younger age than the main competition.
