Dentyl ph wouldn't win awards for innovated design. The design I feel relies heavily on your desire to sneak over in the supermarket or chemist peer round and then give it a blooming great big shake. Mouthwash is mouthwash isn't it? Well that's what I thought until the dreaded hygienist got hold of me, with two 25 minutes appointments in the space of a fortnight this woman poked and prodded, scrapped and chiselled my teeth into a state where they practically gleamed. The thought of having to go throw another session with the woman who makes the Dentist in Marathon Man appear misunderstood I went in search of a mouthwash to add to my oral hygiene routine.
Dentyl ph caught my eye mainly due to the fact the bottle contained a muted pink/reddish liquid topped by a rather fetching blue. It was hurriedly added to my trolley, when it promised to banish "Bacteria and debris that cause bad breath, plague and gum disease" I was sold! Anything to stop that woman coming near my gob again was all I could think of! Dentyl ph comes in two flavours Refreshing Clove - the fetching reddish pink/blue combo and Smooth Mint - a lurid green/ blue combo. I opt for Refreshing Clove due to the fact I detest anything too minty or with a spearmint tang to it.
Dentyl ph wouldn't win awards for innovated design. The design I feel relies heavily on your desire to sneak over in the supermarket or chemist peer round and then give it a blooming great big shake. Ok ok so I did that in the middle of Sainsburys with my first bottle of Refreshing Clove -well I needed to know what colour it would be before I bought it didn't I? I mean it could have been a hideous colour couldn't it? It's rather boring actually and when you mix both liquids together it's a boring deep pink colour! After you've given in a blooming great shake and noticed it's not as pretty looking anymore you'll notice the sell messages on the label proclaiming that one capful will give you 18 hours of fresh breath, that you'll be able to see the results in the sink and that no other mouthwash works in the same way! Give the fact it was £4.99 for 500mls I was hoping it really would work like no other mouthwash did!
Apparently alcohol dries out the mouth and adds to the bad breath that downing umpteen pints, a sex on the beach, two tequilla slammers and munching on a kebab on the way home will give you! Well thankfully good old Dentyl ph doesn't contain any alcohol what so ever . It proudly proclaims it's alcohol free which is a plus should you have friends staying who are scouring your house for anything with an alcohol content at 4am -your over priced mouthwash will be spared!
Now I always thought a mouthwash was a mouthwash i.e. you swilled it around, gargled if you could, swallowed half of it because you ended up having the giggles and ended up with minty breath reminiscent of the nice lady who drank at work but sucked mints. Apparently Dentyl ph is unique in the way it works! The oily top layer when mixed with the bottom layer apparently helps absorb the nasty bacteria that want to give you dog breath and cause your dentist to shake their heads when they peer into the inner regions of your mouth. Add to the fact it's enhanced with fluoride which helps strengthen teeth it sounds like a dentist phobic's nirvana!
After brushing my teeth in the sanctuary of my bathroom, knowing that no one could see me I shook the bottle up hard and fast noticing that not only was the liquid now one unified substance but it had been joined by a white froth. After several minutes of wrestling to get the rather cheap tacky looking plastic cap off I finally managed it. The instructions informed me after vigoursly shaking I was to allow myself half a capful of the toothpaste scented muted pink liquid. Now I know what cloves taste like and unfortunately the pink liquid in Refreshing Clove isn't a substance I'd liken to cloves. It's more toothpaste meets a very slight aniseed type taste, not unpleasant but just not a clove taste! I swilled the liquid around my mouth running my tongue along my teeth for the instructed 30 seconds or so then I gargled for about 5 seconds flat. Ok so I can't gargle and definitely not for the instructed 30 second - I've probably downed more mouthwash in my time by attempting to gargle then I know what! I spat the contents into the sink and peered to see if it really did work and that I'd be able to see the results as claimed on the bottle. I was greeted by a sink full of bright pink globs apparently these are all those nasty bits of bacteria and debris that just brushing leaves behind! It was revolting and not something I'd recommend if you are of a squeamish nature and need smelling salts when watching an episode of Casualty.
Given that Dentyl ph also claims to keep your breath fresh for up to 18 hours I did wonder if it would live up to that claim as well. To be honest my mouth did feel cleaner and slightly fresher for about an hour afterwards but it definitely wasn't all day clean. One thing I did find was that unlike some mouthwashes I've tried in the past it didn't sting and lived up to it's claims of being gentle on mouth tissues. I do remember one mouthwash that was akin to swilling my mouth out with acid due to the over powering mint taste. The fact the Dentist didn't refer me to the hygienist at my last appointment makes me believe that just maybe a twice daily gargle with this is keeping her at bay!
Dentyl ph might be a bit of a novelty with it's shake, then gargle concept but it has definitely worked to my advantage as my 7 year old will spend five minutes brushing her teeth in order that when she does spit out the Dentyl ph there aren't any bits in the sink as that proves she's brushed her teeth properly doesn't it? It is recommended with all fluoride based products that Dentyl ph is not used by under 6's and obviously you should supervise younger children so they don't swallow any.
Dentyl ph is manufactured by Fresh Breath Ltd London who also make a Dentyl ph toothpaste along with an assortment of other dental hygiene products.
Availability: Supermarkets - Tesco, Sainsbury's Morrisons Chemist: Boots, Superdrug and Body Care

Advantages: Freshens breath, nice taste, gets rid of "bits" Disadvantages: Slightly more expensive than the competition
...joy then, when I noticed Dentyl PH Mouthwash on special offer on a recent trip to ASDA. Here was a product that used a subtle blend of witchcraft and wizardry to deliver a bottle of mouthwash, somehow divided into two separate coloured potions, one floating atop the other! As someone who has worked in bars in the past, and tried to mix many a cocktail, I can tell you that this mesmerizing layering of liquids is a skill second only to teleportation ... ...there are five varieties of Dentyl PH mouthwash available, but for some reason most supermarkets and chemists only carry the three most popular which seem to be Icy-fresh mint, Icy-fresh cherry and mouthrinse clove. As someone who thinks cloves should be a flavour present in apple pies and nothing else, and the fact that the cherry varieties vivid pink hue would clash with my bathroom it was the good old mint flavour that I chose as my ally in matters ...

Advantages: Taste is okay & not too strong Disadvantages: The price !!
...So when I saw Dentyl pH "visibly active mouthwash" being promoted in my local Boots shop I didn't pay much attention. However, a few hours later, on the same day, I came across another section of shelves in Tesco advertising the same product and was curious enough to look a little closer.
The tear-drop shaped bottle was emblazened with the statements - "Shake to Activate" and "SEE THE RESULTS IN THE SINK...", "causes of bad breath are removed and ... ...quite easily.
After using Dentyl pH for a few days, less and less green gunk was produced and both my mouth and teeth felt incredibly fresh.
This is by far the best mouthwash I have ever used and I will continue to pay through the nose for it on that basis alone.
The 500ml bottle lasted a whole month so works out at less than £1 per week - not bad.
A final word of warning - one morning, whilst gargling, my daughter tickled me in the ribs and ...

...read Soho Black's op on Dentyl and mentally filed it away under the 'this could be useful' section. So when I was in Superdrug last week and noticed sample sized versions of this rather unique mouthrinse (not mouthwash) I decided to give it a try.
Buying it:
A bottle of Dentyl pH is pretty unmissable on the chemist's shelf, it is roughly triangular with rounded edges and a tall white cap. It comes in two flavours - clove and mint (more on that ... ...the back of the bottle Dentyl pH is 'specifically developed by dentists and clinically proven to help fight the problems of 'Morning Breath' and even the most severe prolonged cases of bad breath. Bacteria and debris that cause bad breath and gum disease are physically removed and clearly visible on rinsing out.' Now call me a cynic if you will but packaging is designed to sell the product so I tend to take it with a pinch of salt so I decided to ...

Advantages: It works Disadvantages: It tastes foul
Let’s get this straight from the get-go – I don’t stink, OK? But I started a new job where I have to work quite closely with “Jo Public” and I wanted to be confident I was minty fresh. I have to tell you that most of “Jo Public” aren’t! Also, I’m kind of hoping I will be doing an awful lot of kissing in the not too distant future, and I want to be prepared ;@)
I have also given up smoking, and ... ...mouth multiplies hugely after quitting the weed, because the nasty nicotine isn’t killing them off (this is why people who quit smoking often become more prone to mouth ulcers for a while). To me, bacteria mean stinky morning breath, and we’re not having that!
So, off I popped to Sainsbury’s to peruse the mouth care aisle. There were gargly things, squirty things, little tablets, everything you could want to keep the old gob shipshape.

Advantages: Works, fun to use, tastes okay Disadvantages: Expensive, not perfect results
...factor of 'shake to activate' Dentyl pH Smooth Mint was the bottle I came away with. There are two 'flavours' available - Refreshing Clove and Smooth Mint. Part of the gimmick of this mouthwash is that there are two separate layers in the bottle. For the Refreshing Clove kind, the layers are blue and red, and the Smooth Mint is (bright) green and blue. Upon shaking, both bottoms come to some colour in between the two start points - pink (I had hoped ... ...is perfectly normal. Dentyl pH claims to be unique in its premise - shake to activate. It's also alcohol free and of the same pH as your saliva. All these things are important to your oral health (so they claim). The bottle proclaims that this will fight plaque, care for teeth and gums, prevent bad breathe, and it contains fluoride - so it all looks good on that perspective. It's this 'unique' shaking action that activates the mouthwash apparently. ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Dentyl pH Mouthwash"
Advantages: Doesn't sting like the alcoholic varieties of mouthwash. Disadvantages: Artificial cherry flavour, leaves my mouth and sink feel greasy.
This mouthwash like many others claims to give you amongst other things fresh breath, care for your teeth, clean mouth etc. It comes in a 500ml bottle which looks really cool. It has two phases or two layers of liquid one dark pink another purple, so it has a lot of girl appeal.
I bought it because it was on a buy two for one offer at Superdrug and wanted to try a mouthwash that wasn't like the boring mint varieties. It was still pricier than what I normally spend (usually pick up a mouthwash at Poundland) but I thought I'd try it out.
I'll start with the advantages, it doesn't sting like other alcoholic mouthwashes which is quite nice because then I'm not in a panic to spit it out. Other mouthwashes sting so much I can barely keep them in my mouth for 30 seconds. Another advantage is that as mentioned above it does look ...
Advantages: A really great toothpaste... Disadvantages: ...that's really hard to get hold of !
Have you ever noticed, whilst out shopping in supermarkets or chemists, how many different types of toothpastes there are ? In a recent trip to my local store, I counted over twenty different brands. There were pastes, gels and powders. There was peppermint flavoured, spearmint, freshmint, and orange and strawberry flavours for kids. There was whitening, fresh breath, fluoride, tartar control, gum protection, smokers, sensitive and extra sensitive varieties. How many ways can there be to clean your teeth ?
Ironically, this review is for a toothpaste that is unavailable in the shops, yet the brand is fairly well known.
