Spit - don't swallow
Advantages Taste is okay & not too strong
Disadvantages The price !!
I've used various mouthwashes sporadically over the past 4 or 5 years, usually just before a social evening out or before a job interview. Lord knows why - it makes the best beer in the world (see my Grolsch review) taste awful and the clinical smell can stun an interviewer before you get into the room (er, thank you Mr B. we'll be in touch, shut the door on your way out).
So when I saw Dentyl pH "visibly active mouthwash" being promoted in my local Boots shop I didn't pay much attention. However, a few hours later, on the same day, I came across another section of shelves in Tesco advertising the same product and was curious enough to look a little closer. The tear-drop shaped bottle was emblazened with the statements - "Shake to Activate" and "SEE THE RESULTS IN THE SINK...", "causes of bad breath are removed and revealed".
The pink clove flavour looked a bit girly, so puffing out my chest slightly I reached for the more manly 500ml green bottle - "Smooth Mint".
So, despite the fact that I'd only gone to Tesco for a loaf of bread and some Haribo tropical fruits, I popped a bottle into my basket and headed off down the aisles to finish my shopping and get home to try my new purchase.
I was still fuming about not noticing the almost £4 price tag when I got home half an hour later.I'd been at work that day and had drunk far too many cups of the machine-dispensed coffee which leaves a furry coating and awful after-taste in my mouth, so headed straight for the bathroom.
The instructions were to shake vigorously, rinse for 30 secs, gargle for 30 secs and then (presumably) spit it out.As with most other mouthwashes, you have to use the lid to pour it into your mouth although there are no markings to show how much to use so I chose to half fill the cap.
I hurriedly poured the mixture as soon as it had been shaken just in case it decided to un-mix itself straight away......The taste was surprisingly mild - and dare I say it - smooth. Just like the Smooth Mint name suggested and nothing like the horror of Listerine blistering mouthwash.
After 1 minute I had rinsed and gargled and prepared to spit into the sink.
I turned off the tap - I WANTED to see the "causes of (my) bad breath ... removed and revealed" - and they were, I think.
At least, the sink was splattered with some green gunk which looked like tiny globules of lime-flavoured jelly.
I stuck out my tongue and it also was covered in the green gunk which I removed with a toothbrush quite easily.
A final word of warning - one morning, whilst gargling, my daughter tickled me in the ribs and I involuntarily swallowed half of what was in my mouth - it tasted foul and I had a stomach-ache for the next hour - so my advice is either to give away your mischievous children - or spit, but don't ever swallow.
