Dequacaine no pain
Advantages VERY effective,reasonably priced.
Disadvantages Risk of scalding the mouth unknowingly
Having tried Strepsils and the multitude of other sore-throat thingmies, which work or work to a small degree,my throat remained a stubborn ass and refused to be sedated a few years ago.
I was recommended Dequacaine by some work colleagues.Having looked at them in a "I-don't-want-any-illegal-things" type of look, they assured me that it was a lozenge suitable for very sore-throats that you could buy over the counter at the local pharmacy. It's name comes from the fact that it contains Benzocaine (a powerful local anaesthetic),and Dequalinium Chloride (a strong antiseptic.)It has a strong action and really works fast and numbs the back of the throat for a good couple of hours. It seems to be the most effective throat treatment I have used,it really does work well.
The ironic thing is that it is made by Crookes Healthcare (owned by Boots!)There is one word of warning that I can offer with this lozenge and that is that it is so effective that if you were to have a very hot drink, there is a risk that you may scald your mouth...so be warned.Wait until the numbness has subsided or test the drink first before drinking it!

Cheers for the advice. My Girlfriend also seems to have a stinking cold, so if I go out and buy these things it could earn me some brownie points TA
