Advantages Great 50cc scooter, good value, cool-looking, reliable and cheap to fix

Disadvantages Need to ring around to find one, not a conventional choice

When I was looking for a 50cc scoot to carry me to and from college in London, I checked out loads from the Japanese companies like Honda and Yamaha, but they weren't that cool or exciting. If you are looking for a cool 50cc then you have to go for a Gilera or, as I found after some searching, a Derbi.

Initially I was drawn to the old GP1, which was a sporty scooter around at the time, but the dealer I found couldn't get hold of one as they were in short supply, and suggested I take a look at the Red Bullet, an Atlantis with similar paintwork and stickers which are from the Derbi racing team.

Now there is the new GP1 which I have seen in some magazines, which looks really good and has some cool features like a chain and exposed swingarm, just like a motorbike. That would probably be the one I would go for now if I wanted a really sporty one, but the Atlantis is a better bet if you want something cheaper to buy.

The Atlantis I tried was really good, quick and small for traffic. But since it was a bit more for the racing stickers than for one which looked similar but probably would be less likely to get nicked I went for a standard 50cc Atlantis. It has done really well for the past year and a bit, all I have had to do is put a bit of oil in when it needs it and stop at the petrol station about once a month!!

I would recommend the Atlantis as a great choice if you want something different which is just as good as the usual suspects. It is cheap to run, good-looking, cheapt to insure and it even has good aftersales service.

Go and try one, you'll be impressed!

Welcome to Ciao! Not a bad first review. Including more info on the ride would be beneficial, as would details of price and the cost of running the bike.
