Advantages Advantages speed, looks, "street cred", handling, comfort

Disadvantages Disadvantages fairing easily damaged, side stand untrustworthy, parts relatively expensive, oil warning light can be temperamental

when I was 16 I was desperate to get on the road like most 16 year olds I sat my CBT a week after my 16th birthday and was thrilled to be "mobile", my first bike was a TS50 which I found slow and loud! so i started shopping about, I came across the Derbi GPR50R which I had to have, It had the full race sticker set and looked the biz. Stock horsepower is rated at 9HP, and I've heard rumours that the engine can make upwards of 20HP with the addition of an 80cc big bore kit, carb and performance exhaust, but I didnt go for that as it was illegal as I was meant to have a 50cc, and my bike did 70 ... more

4 Stars Quick review of Derbi GPR 50 R by ljwalker 07/10/2008
I have a friend who owns one of these they are good little bikes they are very quick around 70mph, they look like a much bigger bike then a 50cc. the only one downside with these bikes is the parts seem to be very expensive. i recomend this bike to any 16 year olds.

    Advantages Advantages speed, look

    Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive parts

i bought the derbi gpr 50 r limited edition in around about october 2009 time it needed a bit of work which was quite expensive so parts arent that cheap for derbis. apart from that, ythe bike is a mean machine for a 50 cc i got around the 75 mph mark out of mine satndard with a metrakit exhaust on it. brilliant look of bike put mine up to a cbr 400 and the derbi was only about 2 inches smaller so it is a big bike overall a good bike nice with powerband it is fast !!! brill bike perfect handling very fast for a 50cc running cost amazing 5 pound last 2 weeks and i ride mine every day and do ... more

Advantages Advantages reliable, nice looking, gets alot of appreciation, fast, unexpected!

Disadvantages Disadvantages can have problems depending on what condition u buy them in. so be careful!

this is the best bike i will ever own. its reliable as fuck. and i've had every problem going. i have had electrics break on me, charging circuts go down, fuel starvation, carb drain, clutch failure. and it still keeps going! mine's a 2000 y reg one and although its not the new, coolest, look @ me i got money version. its stil quick as f**K. i mean it soldiered on with a damaged crank bearing and still did 50mph. which is faster then mosta me mates. im currently referbing me engine to sort that problem out. but it had done over 20 000 km so its not done bad! looks mean as fuck as well. i got a ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap to run, Cheap to buy, Looks amazing

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as quick as a car

For a 50cc this bike is amazingly quick, and it looks like it is a lot more powerful then 50cc. As young as a 16 year old can drive one of these bikes as a learner. This one is fully geared unlike a scooter a normal 16 year olds choice which is a lot slower than the Derbi gpr. As I have owned one of these bikes I can safely say In my opinion its the best 50cc bike i have ever ridden or seen therefore I would highly recommend this bike not just to 16 year olds but to any new bikers as it is fantastic for beginners and is great for crowded cities and has a very high acceleration. Overall this ... more
