Now, I have never been that big a fan of Dermalogica products but I absolutely love Daily Microfoliant and also their Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque, I find their products very hit and miss.

This Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is Dermalogicas No.1 exfoliator which is gentle but very effective. It is a unique rice based power formula which activates upon contact with water, realising papain, salicylic acid and rice enzymes that micro-exfoliate dead skin cells, instantly leaving your skin smoother and brighter. The unique skin brightening complex of aspergillus, grapefuit and licorice helps to balance uneven skin pigmentation.
Your skin melanin production is also regulated by active ingredients derived form rice bran extract, helping to ensure you have an even skin tone and pigment while the blend of green tea, ginkgo and colloidal oatmeal helps to calm and soothe the skin, making it perfect for use on sensitive skin. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant has recently won 'Best Facial Exfoliator' in the InStyle Best Beauty Buys 2008.
~~~~~~~~ The Bottle ~~~~~~~~
The bottle is very basic looking which reflects Dermalogicas products - they do not contain anything artifical and are basic but work well. The bottle is white with a dark grey lid and writing. The lid is a screw top and there is a small dispenser for the powder to come out of, so too much doesn't come out at a time. The writing and information displayed is mimalistic, displaying only the necessary information - the product name, that is is dermalogicas, dermalogicas slogan and the size. On the back it displays a short description of the product and directions for use. The bottle is quite large - it is 2.6 oz/75g.

An essential step in a skin care program is exfoliation. Exfoliating smoothes away dead skin cells, prevents clogged pores and reveals a layer of fresh new cells. Regular exfoliating is the secret to radiant, smooth and healthy skin.
Daily microfoliant is easy to use, after cleansing or in the shower, dispense about half a teaspoon into very wet hands and create a creamy paste by rubbing your hands together. Apply to face and neck in circular motions, avoiding the eye area. Massage gently for one minute, then rinse throughly with warm water. This can be used when washing your face or in the shower. The above directions are Dermalogicas but I find it quite difficult to juggle the bottle around and put into very wet hands, so I tend to put into one wet hand, then wet the other then rub them together, If my skin is feeling particulary overloaded or dry I use this twice. I use it once and massage in for 30 seconds, rinse off, wait a few minutes then use again and massage in for 1 minute. This really makes a difference if your skin is extremely dull and lifeless. It is great to use first thing in the morning, to wake you up and brighen up your skin for the day ahead.
This is a different exfoliator to what you would usually expect, instead of being a typical cream with beads in, instead it is a rice based power formula which activates upon contact with water, realising papain, salicylic acid and rice enzymes that micro-exfoliate dead skin cells, instantly leaving your skin smoother and brighter. This does take some getting used to, if you are used to using a standard exfoliator, but you soon get used to it, I did and will never use anything else on my face. Although it is powder based, when it activates upon contact with water you can certainly feel the grains in it but they do not scratch your skin or cause any discomfort.
Daily Microfoliant doesn't particularly smell of anything, there is no gorgeous smell from additives that a lot of products have in, it just smells very basic and not really of anything, but this is what Dermalogica pride themselves on.
The first time I used Daily Microfoliant it seemed to remove a layer of dullness from my skin, despite having regularly exfoliated for years. Seeing results so fast is definately somthing I like to see a product do. Daily Microfoliant throroughly cleanses your skin at the same time as gently exfoliating it, it feels refreshed and clean after use. Daily Microfoliant doesn't dry out your skin or make it feel tight, It gives a really good glow and makes your skin feel soft and looks radiant. It is recommended that you should exfoliate at least 3 times a week but Daily Microfoliant is gentle enough to use daily, hense the name. It contains no artificial fragrance or colouring and particularly good for sensitive skin. It doesn't irriate your skin. I have ecezma, which I suffer from particularly on my face, mostly my forehead and my skin is sensitive to certain products, but I use this daily in the shower with no problem. Even if my ecezma is inflammed and very sore, this is gentle enough to use over it without aggravating it. Your skin is left smooth and even and is left feeling nourished and refreshed. It really gives you a thorough deep cleanse, this product removes all remaining traces of make up from your skin and that has been embedded into your pores, ensuring they do not get blocked and cause spots or blackheads. If you do have blackheads, this exfoliator does remove them gently, but if they are fairly bad it will take several uses to do this. I have been using this for a year now, and sinced then I have definately noticed a difference in my skin, I rarely suffer from spots anymore and my skin generally appears brighter and smoother. Daily Microfoliant is gentle but very effective, it does all you want it to. It removes dead skin cells gently to reveal a fresh new layer of brightened, smooth and glowing skin. Although it is very effective on your face, it wouldn't be effective enough for use on the body as your skin is so much tougher.
It is recommended for all skin types but not for users of medically prescrbed exfoliation products. I have really sensitive skin and it doesn't irritate my skin like other exfoliators but daily microfoliant works well unlike other exfoliators recommended for sensitive skin, which I generally find are not effective enough to remove the dead skin cells.
One problem I have found with this product is that if you spill water in the dispenser then it can clog it up slightly, making it harder to use. When the product is close to the end, you will be able to hear a rattle when you shake it, once you hear this, you will only have about a weeks worth of use left, so it is worth ordering more when this happens.
I have recently run out of this and have had to wait until today when I have been paid to buy some more. Not being able to use this for a week or so has really made me notice the difference that it makes to my skin. Since I haven't been able to use it, my skin hasn't had that glowing effect to it, it feels more oily and clogged up. The bottle I have just finished lasted me for a year and this is with daily use, so the price isn't too bad to pay when it lasts so long.

The product is expensive with an RRP of £31.00 for a 75g bottle but you can usually pick it up from various websites for £25-£30 depending where you buy it from, I tend to buy it from the internet as you can usually get it cheaper. I use a website called www.lookfantastic.com and I can pick this up for £26.35, but I have to pay postage and packaging ontop of this. I think the product is worth this money though, as it lasts a long time, unlike other exfoliators it is a powder so you only use a small amount, and you can make sure you get the last bit out the bottle as well unlike liquids that always get stuck and you end up having to cut open to get to the last bit! At the moment, when you buy Dermalogica Microfoliant, you receive a free 7 day supply of Dermalogica Daily Resurfacer and Gentle Cream Exfoliant. You get a 10ml tube of Gentle Cream Exfoliant and 7 10ml sachets of Daily Resurfacer.

I would really recommend this product to anyone, it is amazing which is reflected in Dermalogicas sales - as it is their number one selling product. It leaves your skin looking soft, radiant and is a product I could not live without. Although it is expensive, one bottle has lasted me a year with daily use so it's not so bad in the long run. I am not generally a fan of Dermalogica products, but this is one that is definately worth a try.
