...well, for your skin, anyway!
I discovered this wonderful secret over 3 years ago and have been using it ever since. I had just discovered I was pregnant for the second time and felt like treating myself. So I booked myself into a local beauty salon for a facial. I came out with wonderfully soft, glowing skin and have been using the products ever since.

There are a wide range of products – some of which I have used, others I haven’t. So I’ll give basic details of all of them and a bit more on those I have used.
CLEANSERS
Special Cleansing Gel – my favourite and the one I use every day. It is a soap-free gel that foams when you use it. It cleanses thoroughly without leaving your skin feeling dry. Suitable for all skin types. Dermal Clay Cleanser – this is a purifying, clay-based cleanser. It feels quite heavy on your skin and ‘tingles’ when you use it, due to the menthol in the product. It is particularly suited to those with oily or congested skin, as its deep cleansing action will help to clear the skin. Anti-Bac Skin Wash – this is a foaming face wash that is most suited to acne prone or oily skin. Essential Cleansing Solution – this is a milky solution which provides nourishment to dry skin whilst gently removing impurities. Ultra-calming Cleanser – a new product to the range, this is a gently cleanser which helps to combat environmental assault on the skin. It is especially useful for very sensitive skin and can be removed without using water.
TONERS
Multi-Active Toner – my daily toner, this is a light facial spray which refreshes the skin after cleansing. Soothing Protection Spray – an ultra-calming spray to go with the new cleanser, this is also formulated to protect against environmental damage.
MOISTURISERS
Skin Smoothing Cream – this is a medium-weight cream, full of nutrients to smooth, protect and rehydrate skin. I use this daily and find it extremely soothing on my skin. Oil Control Lotion – a light lotion that helps to absorb excess oils and maintains a matt finish. Active Moist – a lightweight moisturiser which offers effective hydration. Barrier Repair – a waterless moisturiser that is suitable for sensitised skin. It helps to repair damage caused by the environment.
EXFOLIANTS
Skin Prep Scrub – this contains finely ground corncob meal and gently polishes away dead surface cells. It can be mixed into the Special Cleansing Gel for a speedy cleanse and exfoliation. Gentle Cream Exfoliant – this is a concentrated mask exfoliant, containing Alpha Hydroxy Acids to smooth and retexture the skin. I have found this can irritate slightly when first applied, but this soon subsides.
FACE MASKS
Skin Refining Masque – a deep-cleansing, clay-based mask that helps to absorb excess oils and impurities. Excellent for an oily T-zone. Skin Hydrating Masque – a gel based mask, which refreshes the skin while hydrating. Also helps to replenish stressed, dehydrated skin and reduce inflammation. Suitable for all skin types. Intensive Moisture Masque – a rich, creamy mask that provide intense moisture to very dry skin. Helps to reduce fine lines. MultiVitamin Power Recovery Masque – my favourite! An anti-inflammatory mask, this contains concentrated vitamins A, C and E to reduce free radical damage. It also contains botanicals to help calm environmentally stressed skin and helps to increase skin elasticity. It also smells wonderful!
CONCENTRATED BOOSTERS
Gentle Soothing Booster – an oil-free treatment which reduces redness and helps to calm inflamed skin. Active Firming Booster – helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines. Special Clearing Booster – a topical gel that can help to dry up and clear spot outbreaks. I use this if I get the odd outbreak and it clears the spots up quickly. Skin Renewal Booster – a blend of Alpha Hydroxy Acids which helps to restore smooth skin texture. Intensive Moisture Concentrate – an antioxidant treatment that provides deep nourishment to areas that are extra dry. Specific Skin Concentrate – this gel helps to enhance the benefits of your usual moisturiser. Solar Defense Booster – a unique supplement which can be mixed with your daily moisturiser to add SPF30 sun protection.
SPECIALITIES
MultiVitamin Power Concentrate – a concentrated dose of pure vitamins to help reduce the signs of premature ageing. Soothing Eye Make-Up Remover – a gentle oil and alcohol-free gel which removes eye and lip make-up without irritation. And yes, it does remove waterproof mascara! Total Eye Care – a firming cream to refresh and protect the vulnerable eye area. Intensive Eye Repair – a rich cream the helps to alleviate dryness around the eyes. Pigment Relief – a revolutionary lotion that can help to naturally even out excessive skin pigmentation caused by sun damage, oral contraception and pregnancy.
As I said, I have been using the products for 3 years now without any problems. My skin is soft and supple and I know that if I do have any skin problems, there is a product to suit it. They are easy to use and long-lasting – a small amount goes a long way.
But – and there is a but – the products can be difficult to get hold of. Due to the professional nature of these products, they are only available from salons that have approved Dermalogica therapists who have been trained in the use of the products. Before purchasing any products, it is necessary to see a therapist who will be able to decide which products are best suited to your skin type. Therefore, you cannot walk into Debenhams or John Lewis to buy these, as you can with most skin care ranges.

Also, as you would expect with professional products, they are not cheap. A travel size (30ml) bottle of cleanser will set you back £7.70. A 280ml bottle costs £17.70. However, the larger size bottle will probably last around 4 months, so in reality it is just over £4 per month. Some products are more expensive than others – the boosters, for example, are around £35 for 30ml. BUT, you only need a few drops at a time so they do last a long while.
A starter kit containing cleanser, toner, moisturiser and exfoliant can be bought for around £22. This is a good way to try the products out before committing to a big expense. Also, if you see a good therapist, samples are usually available!
For more information see www.dermalogica.com There is a salon finder on the website, so you can locate your nearest salon.
Overall, I think this is a wonderful range of products, even though they are quite expensive. However, the quality is – in my opinion – well worth it.
Advantages: Natural Ingredients, Good Value for Money, Kind to Skin, Good Results Disadvantages: Quite Pricey, Hard to Find Apart from Online, Best Bought After Prescriptive Facial
...into the routine of using Dermalogica facial scrub and facial clay mask. These really brighten up my complexion.
Dermalogica products are quite pricey but they are good quality and last for ages. Natural ingredients without colouring and perfume.
The packaging is a bit non descript but what does that matter? It's a clean simple design - it doesn't need jazzy packaging, it's the stuff inside that counts.
Sometimes you may be lucky and find a beauty ... ...beautician who can prescribe which Dermalogica product to buy - but perservere. It'll be worth it.
I paid around £18 for a 237ml bottle of Special Cleansing Gel, £30 for a 104ml tube of Active Moist and around £18 for 237ml of Active Toner. The Skin Prep scrub comes in at around £19 for 74ml and the Skin Refining Mask is around £22 for 74ml.
These may sound expensive but they last for absolutely ages.
However should you wish to try before you ...

After reading Dermalogica reviews online I decided to buy Daily Microfoilant as many people said it was useful at removing blackheads. I was impressed at the gentle action of this exfoliater. I could use it daily and it left my skin feeling smooth and clean. The gentle exfoliating action also helped to slough off any scabs I had on my chin as a result of picking my spots. I also noticed an improvements vis a ve blackheads!
I decided to ... ...to treat myself to a dermalogica facial as recommended by the company on their website.
It was absolute heaven!!! The lady who did my facial was very sweet and gentle. The treatment included: a thorough cleanse, my face was then steamed and product applied to loosen my pores- then the painful part!- blackhead squeezing (arrgh but it was worth the pain!) then a nice relaxing face and shoulder massage. Other products and a face mask was applied, then ...

Advantages: Great range of Products that make your skin feel wonderful. Disadvantages: A Little on the Pricey side
I started using Dermalogica in Oct last year, I treated myself to a facial which cost me £27 but this can vary depending on where you go. The facial lasted just over an hour, in the hour I was cleansed had my skin examined was then re-cleansed, exfoliated, steamed, massaged and had a face mask applied, toned and moisturised The whole experence was total bliss.
I was then told which products where recommended for my skin type, but I didn't buy any ... ...my fav. product in the dermalogica range. A 74ml tube cost me £17.90 and I use it between once a week when I'm good and once a month when I'm not. They recommend it no more than twice a week. It's not suitable for very sensitive skin tough, as it may be a bit harsh, if you have sensitive skin then go for the daily mictofoliant. If you like an exfoliator that you can feel is doing the job then go for skin pre scrub.
The other product I use regularly ...

Advantages: lovely to use, no skin irritants, gives a slight healthy glow to your face Disadvantages: expensive, didn't do as I had hoped
...I ordered up the Dermalogica Skin Brightening System along with my make-up and eagerly waited its arrival. I nearly cried when I heard the price - £68!!! – but this was surely cheap for the possibility of clear skin again. The back of the silver box tells you to use it for 8-10 weeks for best results and claims to ‘restore your skin’s healthy glow while balancing pigmentation and protecting against future discoloration’. It also makes clear that ... ...to use, as do other Dermalogica products I have tried (foundation, cleanser and moisturiser). Dermalogica was founded by the same people who founded the International Dermal Institute in the 1980s. The aim was to create a skin care range which was free from irritants commonly used in other skincare products. Among the things they eliminated are mineral oil, artificial colours and fragrances, formaldehyde and lanolin. Like all skin care brands I use, ...

Advantages: Feels luxurious to use Disadvantages: Fairly expensive compared to high street brands
The Dermalogica skin care range consists of far more products than I could ever write about in one opionion, therefore, in this opinion I'll tell you a bit about those products I have tried, and a little bit about what other products are available...
Firstly a bit about Dermalogica itself...
Dermalogica is an American company, based in Los Angeles. It was founded in 1986 by Jane and Raymond Wurwand, who also founded The International Dermal Institute. ... ...With regards to their products, Dermalogica state:
"Using only the finest ingredients available, all products are non-comedogenic and contain no occlusive mineral oil or lanolin, no irritating artificial colors or fragrance, and no drying S.D. alcohol or formaldehyde. Developed with the environment in mind, we also ensure that all ingredients are from eco-safe sources and are packaged in recyclable containers. Always cruelty-free, we do not test ...

Dermalogica is a 'prescription' skincarerange, and can be tailored to your own individual skincare needs.
To achieve this, I was offered a free face map. The face mapping is vital, so that your skin type can be determined. For me, this was basically sitting under a lamp like the ones at the dentists, while the beautician asks questions about my skin type, and also looks at what blemishes etc are on my skin.
I was also under no obligation to buy anything after the face mapping, if anything, it was the opposite, and I was given lots of samples to try.
This cleanser was recommended to me as part of my skincare routine, so I decided to give it a go, after reading so many really good reviews of dermalogica products.
This retails for around £18 from salons. It's not available in stores, due to the nature of the product ...
Advantages: medium wieght moisturiser, hydrating Disadvantages: pricey
Dermalogica is one of the best skincareranges around today, in almost all salons I have been to they either use dermalogica products professionally themselves and/or reccomend it for people prone to sensative skin as well as dry or oily/acneic skin conditions. I first discovered this professional range when I was going through a period of ver bad acne but found almost everything hurt my sensative skin too much to use in the long run.
It literally got rid of my acne, improved the scarring left by it and left my so smooth and healthy i wonder why i ever stopped using it for awhile. The intensive moisture balance is a daily moisturiser (can be used at night as well) and is reccomended for those with drier or prematurely aging skin, although it just as great for those with dry/combination skin like mine. While I have previously used ...
Advantages: Cleanser & Mask in One, Does the Job Disadvantages: Pricey, Rather Smelly, A Little Messy
When I was a younger teenager I went through the unavoidable stages of puberty, we?ve all been there and if you?ve not you will be soon! The worst way it affected me was my skin, it went quite oily but was intermitted with periods of dryness too. Now my mum will argue with that, she?ll tell everyone that my mood swings were the worst, I was up and down from the ceiling like a yo yo but I still maintain that it was my skin which was the real curse of puberty.
Now I tried everything to get rid of my oily, and sometimes spotty skin, Clearasil, Clean & Clear, every product that could be bought from the chemist appeared on my bathroom shelf at some point but nothing quite seemed to remove every single spot or every single bit of grease, until I came across the DermalogicaSkin Carerange. The Dermalogica Dermal Clay Cleanser was the first ...
