After suffering from teenage and early adult acne, I moved into my thirties with clear skin but somewhat open pores and some blackheads. My skin felt like it was a little dull at times and I was still prone to the odd breakout from time to time.
My beautician asked me what my skin care routine was. I advised her I used a well known department store cleansing bar and toner - but no moisturiser as it usually meant I would break out in spots. She immediately wrinkled her nose and told me those products were full of mineral oils and I was wasting my money.
She talked me into having a facial and advised me I was normal to oily skin with some dry patches...so a combination really! She advised me I really should be using a moisturiser without mineral oils and recommended Dermalogica.
I was really impressed with the Special Cleansing Gel - you only need a dab around the size of a 5p and it lathers up nicely on your face and rinses away easily.
The multi active toner took a bit of getting used to as you spritz it on your face and just leave it...I didn't like that at first as I was used to applying it with a cotton ball (which apparantly you can do too but you may use too much that way) but I got used to it.
The Active Moist sank into my skin with ease and again you do not need a lot. I was nervous about using the moisturiser - I thought I would break out within a few days but I did not.
My skin feels so much cleaner & softer using these products. My open pores have been reduced although they haven't gone completely they are a marked improvement on pre-Dermalogica times. I only get the odd spot these days but usually they are down to hormones or stress! The blackheads are a lot better now too - especially when I get into the routine of using Dermalogica facial scrub and facial clay mask. These really brighten up my complexion.
Dermalogica products are quite pricey but they are good quality and last for ages. Natural ingredients without colouring and perfume.
The packaging is a bit non descript but what does that matter? It's a clean simple design - it doesn't need jazzy packaging, it's the stuff inside that counts.
Sometimes you may be lucky and find a beauty salon in town that sells Dermalogica but I mostly have to buy online which is a pain if you run out and need it in a hurry but that's just bad planning on my part!
You may have to find a beautician who can prescribe which Dermalogica product to buy - but perservere. It'll be worth it.
I paid around £18 for a 237ml bottle of Special Cleansing Gel, £30 for a 104ml tube of Active Moist and around £18 for 237ml of Active Toner.
The Skin Prep scrub comes in at around £19 for 74ml and the Skin Refining Mask is around £22 for 74ml.
These may sound expensive but they last for absolutely ages. However should you wish to try before you buy without spending too much, Starter Kits are around £20 - for travel sized bottles.
