(Small Spoilers Are Contained In This Review)

On April 9th 2005 Derren Brown performed at the Belfast Waterfront Hall to a packed auditorium, it was very nearly doing to be packed minus one seat.

A few months previous to this gig a friend of mine was asking around if people wanted to get tickets to this show, I had seen almost nothing of his work and was a skeptic about the whole thing so said no, complete waste of money.

Closer the time someone that was going dropped out, and a free ticket became availible, I had nothing to do, so thought - why not?

Not doing would have been the dumbest move I could have made in a long time, the show completely blew me away, outstanding.

He started off by making the crowd feel very at ease by throughing in a few jokes and just generally lightening the mood up, then he moved onto your sorta bog standard mind reading tricks, the type that make you go o0o0o00, but nothing too spectacular.

The first half of the show was basically full of all the things you would expect from a Derren Brown show, packed with things to make you wonder and things to really get you thinking about how someone can do all these things, of course anyone that has seen any of his material will know that he usually lets his audience in on the secret, and usually it is as baffling as the actual act itself!

The end of the first session was nothing short of amazing, he played a small video that contianed "Subliminal Messages" and told us that people would start to get an urge to come to the stage, and sure enough people did en mass, it was an amazing site to see, then with some clever stagework he was able to make the people that came up to the stage out of thier own free will to pick up any envelope they wanted and inside was thier seat number - amazing stuff!

However the show really came into its own by the section session, before the interval he mentioned that it was not suitable for the under 12's. I can see why!

He started off by hammering a nail into his nose, and getting a member of the audience to pull it out, gross stuff, then he walked on glass, and got a member of the audience to step on his head while he was lying on glass, grosser stuff.

Then the grand finale, for this he did....he did..... You will have to go and see his show to see what he did, but trust me, it was easily the most amazing thing I have seen in a long time.

This man has single handidly turned me from a complete skeptic to an over awed fan of his work in about 1 hour 30 minutes. He is smarter than you and everyone you know, and he knows this but isn't an ass about it.

Pure Talent.

Go and see his show.
