aptiva series
Review of IBM Aptiva 2158 - K6-2 450 MHz - 17" CRT by watty52

Advantages: Ease of use and ease of initial setup
Disadvantages: could maybe be better with a real pentium in it - but I don't really know without changing it

...the purchase - Comet or IBM - I did have to have my printer replaced a Xerox xj6 with a cannon BJC2100 but that could be another op somewhere else sometime. The machine I bought has a Pentium 3 lookalike installed as standard and is fast enough for everthing I do which is mainly word processing and internet use with some paint and draw applications mainly design of proformas for work use. ... Nice machine, but standard spec ain't enough!
Review of Systemax Inspire 7392 - Athlon XP 2100+ 1.73 GHz - 17" CRT by tomo1k

Advantages: Good build quality, excellent customer support - Can be customised
Disadvantages: Not enough memory as specified

These Systemax machines are well-built, and have plenty of space inside for future upgrades. The cables inside are very neatly tied away, which makes life a lot easier when you want to install a new video card or extra RAM. USB ports are provided front and rear, which is essential now that USB memory sticks are becoming popular. However, I'd strongly suggest that prospective customers get more RAM fitted than the standard spec. With the standard ...
...you definately don't get the best out of the powerful AMD Athlon XP processor. Fortunately, Simply allow you to customise these machines and will happily fit almost any extra gizmos you want, or remove anything you don't think you need. I customised my machine to 1GB of RAM and added a DVD-writer to the standard equipment, and the price for these improvements was very reasonable. However, I did experience some trouble about 2 months into ownership ... Read review

Compensation please
Review of Systemax Ascent 7370 - Athlon XP 2500+ 1.83 GHz - 19" CRT by gogaTSV

Advantages: good value for money
Disadvantages: not build well

I got my Systemax 500mhz 64SDRAM machine in June 2000. By early August I started having some problems that neither Simply Tech support nor their engineers could explain. I had to return my PC. After 10 days I got it back with a note saying that there was nothing wrong with it and that it had undergone vigorous checks. However, as soon as I started working, the same problems started occuring. Yes, you guessed it, I sent it back again. Now, it took ...
...wrong with it, and sent it back to me. Third time, four months later and probably 50 complains, Simply agreed to rebuild my PC. I got my new PC at last, and everything seems fine. there are a few minor problems that I try not pay attention to. e.g. it doesn't play audio CDs, When I phoned up the tech support to ask why, they recommended I't return the machine to them for a check. I don't think I will. I have really had enough with this company. ... Read review

Good Budget PC, but not for gaming!
Review of Dell Inspiron 530 - Pentium Dual Core E2140 1.6 GHz - 17" TFT by yatzue

Advantages: Good value, runs most common apps well
Disadvantages: Struggles with high intensity graphics apps and games

...nothing special here, quite typical Dell styling - neat and clean, but not particularly eye catching! Finally, high intensity programs such as professional design apps and games, this PC will simply not cope! Personally I would not recommend Dell for this as, having used a number of different models, come no where close to a custom built PC for the same price. ... Read review
