Does the job - pity about the noise
Review of Compaq Presario 7477 - K6-2 by
Big_JD
Advantages: good looking, powerful, does the job
Disadvantages: hideous fan noise, poor build quality
...and go find a better laptop (such as a Dell or Sony).
Please note that although I am always willing to accept that my laptop is experiencing "rare" and "isolated" issues, I now know that the fan noise is a common Compaq problem.
I hope this review helps!! ...

Review of HP Pavilion 8660 - K6-2 550 MHz by
robert2003
Advantages: not expencive
Disadvantages: look poor
...this system Hardware : HP Pavilion 8505, Intel PIII 450Mhz, 64mb Ram, 10g.b HDD, 40x max speed cd rom drive, Rockwell Modem, Nvidia Riva TNT Graphics, MPEG Full motion digital video Software : Win 98, MS Money 2000, MS Works, Mcafee Virus Description of the system looks lucrative right and the model is really a beauty with a huge price tag of 60,000Rs(1,400$) and I was really happy playing games with excellent effects, you can watch movies with really ... ...called up the so called HP service centre and I was in for a rude shock because they straightaway told me that would cost me Rs2500 (50$) for the ram and 2500Rs for the service. I told them It was under warranty and I agree with the equipment it is okay, but the service should not be so high, but they straight away refused to reduce the cost of services. I was no way going to shell out money for the Service so caught hold of a local seller and got ...

Nice machine, but standard spec ain't enough!
Review of Systemax Inspire 7392 - Athlon XP 2100+ 1.73 GHz - 17" CRT by
tomo1k
Advantages: Good build quality, excellent customer support - Can be customised
Disadvantages: Not enough memory as specified
These Systemax machines are well-built, and have plenty of space inside for future upgrades. The cables inside are very neatly tied away, which makes life a lot easier when you want to install a new video card or extra RAM.
USB ports are provided front and rear, which is essential now that USB memory sticks are becoming popular.
However, I'd strongly suggest that prospective customers get more RAM fitted than the standard spec. With the standard ... ...you definately don't get the best out of the powerful AMD Athlon XP processor.
Fortunately, Simply allow you to customise these machines and will happily fit almost any extra gizmos you want, or remove anything you don't think you need.
I customised my machine to 1GB of RAM and added a DVD-writer to the standard equipment, and the price for these improvements was very reasonable.
However, I did experience some trouble about 2 months into ownership ...
