My new IMAC
Review of Apple iMac Core 2 Duo 1.83 GHz - 17" TFT by
jermiez
Advantages: Compact, Stylish, Value for money
Disadvantages: A little slow when opening up a number of programs at one go
Since my Toshiba M30 harddisk broke down, I decided to go for an iMac as i had been craving for one for ages!!!
As a first timer using Macs, I found the controls and mouse foreign BUT it was really easy to pick it up and I found that it was so easy to open a few programs, switch to multiple views and select which one you wanted to see. An easy example would be switching between 3 webpages where you can view all 3 pages and select the one that had ... ...a fair number of programs such as word, safaris and adium, it took awhile for loading.
Also, the graphic is not exactly fantastic for those art users or gamings although it is enough to view movies and meddle around. If speed is of great importance though, you can always just upgrade your ram as you buy the computer because there is only 1 ram slot.
For the value, I would say this is an all round Mac with the latest technology to suit most people ...

A beautifully designed workhorse
Review of Apple Power Mac G5 - PPC G5 2 GHz by
intelligents
Advantages: fast, powerful, upgradable, easy to use,
Disadvantages: big and heavy to get it home!
...looks great. I purchased an Apple 20" screen to match - i'm a firm believer in matching underwear!
Set up couldn't be easier, thats the beauty of the Apple system. For any PC users reading this, wondering whether to switch or not - go down to your local Apple dealer and try it. Thats the only way you'll know whether its for you or not.
The G5 processors (x2) make this computer excellent for multitasking e.g. if you've got more than one application ... ...computer will perform brilliantly. Though Apple now use Intel processors, this computer is still a powerful work horse. Plus i can still install the latest operating systems without the need to upgrade. Thats the beauty of spending a bit more on a computer - it will keep its age better.
The RAM supplied is sufficient for everyday use, but 1GB-2GB would make this computer blisteringly fast. Apple are known for being a touch stingy with supplied RAM.

Still a good machine if it suits your purposes
Review of Apple Power Mac G5 Dual - PPC G5 2 GHz by
cmsdengl
Advantages: Fast machine for its time, easy to maintain
Disadvantages: Now replaced by the Mac Pro Intel machines
...it's still listed on the Apple UK store website. It may suit you if you have particular requirements. For example, if you have older applications written for the PowerPC (PPC) architecture you will not get much performance gain using the new Intel machine. Apple has moved most of its applications to the new "Universal Binary" format so they run on either PPC or Intel machines. However, some makers of the major third party applications like Microsoft ... ...As with most Apple machines it starts straight out of the box. I ordered mine with the optional GeForce 7600 graphics card for extra graphics performance. I also ordered third party - 1GB of memory and an additional 160GByte SATA drive. Opening the machine to access the memory slots and drive bays is very easy - much easier than most Windows machines I've dealt with. The machine has a full range of USB and Firewire connections both on rear and front ...

The Industry Standard?
Review of Apple Power Mac G5 - PPC G5 1.8 GHz by
halpinsteel
Advantages: Truly one of the most powerful computing solutions available.
Disadvantages: Clearly not a home PC/games machine; PC users may take some getting used to.
I confess; I love my G5. I was a pure windows PC user who was asked to learn to use a Mac for my work. I had no interest in the machine. Was I wrong! I simply could not be alive without it. The effortless streamling of OS X. The incredible stability of the system. The sheer power in supporting complex programs. I now use two G5's; one to power a recording studio(!), the other for my design work. For serious software platforms there is no other choice; ... ...run comprehensive video and audio editing, web design and photo editing on a G5 to industry standards, and often at the same time. I confess the Mac interface did take me a while to get used to, but it is incredibly intuitive. For those of you who just can't do without a right-click, simply hotplug your old USB PC mouse into the keyboard. I find internet usage and other basic tasks just, well, tidier than on any Windows based machine as well. I was ...

Review of Apple Power Mac G5 - PPC G5 1.8 GHz by
facdanorms
Advantages: Fast and Stable.
Disadvantages: Some software incompatibilities. Very Expensive
The new addition in the Power line proved that the megahertz rating is not deciding factor that determined the true value of a PC. Here are some of its basic description:
The new 64-bit Power Macintosh G5 is intended for the higher-end consumers. This is much faster than the G4’s and with the other PC that you could buy today. It has a 1.8 GHz G5 processor and a AGP 8x graphics card slot bundled with either a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (1.6 and 1.8 ... ...Memory slots can consist of up to 8 RAM slots for DDR Memory. You use either use a 333 MHz or ddr 400 MHz memory. The G5 also offers a 64-bit PCI slots and a 2 serial ATA controllers which runs at a 159 MHz frequency. The Power Macintosh G5 absolutely fast, especially the 32-bit applications.
