Primergy |Econel Range
Review of Fujitsu Siemens PRIMERGY Econel 200 - Xeon 2.8 GHz by
macspain
Advantages: small, easily upgraded with standard hardware
Disadvantages: should be dual proc
I have the Econel 50 and unlike some of the more comon server platforms it offers quite a bit in terms of upgrade-ability. It is a little tight in there if you're adding more drives (3.5 &* 5.25) so I recommend keeping your cable management tight.
It's a reliable build on the Intel Chipset and I've yet to see a BSOD! The Motherboard build is of expected server high quality and there is no sign of popping electrolytic capacitors around the CPU; there ... ...(snug exhaust fit) over the large CPU heatsink.
The installation tools that come on the setup CDs provide a pre-installation environment based upon a flavor of Linux and allows you to install Win 2K up to 2K3 Enterprise.
Ideal for a budget server, not designed to be mission critical, would be great as a DUAL CPU or DUAL core as struggles a bit under serious load ...

AVOID this machine
Review of Fujitsu Siemens SCALEO Pa 2512 - Athlon 64 X2 4600+ by
dwmusic
Advantages: the retailer will take it back
Disadvantages: Fujitsu-Siemens
10p a minute for so-called 'free' technical support
contradictory advice given, depending upon whom one talks to
the machine instantly becomes unusable if you turn it off in the first 20 minutes of operation
no warning on the box that this will happen
no recovery or system disks provided with the computer
an exorbitant 36.50 Euros to buy the recovery disks with a 4 day standard waiting time for delivery
... ...to the website
the computer will not run Windows XP, the only known reliable version of Windows in current use
I was more than once by tech support told the computer will run XP when clearly it will not, because Fujitsu-Siemens make the hardware to run only on Vista
available drivers and firmware updates have no installation
Firewire drive hangs when folder containing audio files is "opened" and computer won't shut ...

Good Budget PC, but not for gaming!
Review of Dell Inspiron 530 - Pentium Dual Core E2140 1.6 GHz - 17" TFT by
yatzue
Advantages: Good value, runs most common apps well
Disadvantages: Struggles with high intensity graphics apps and games
...nothing special here, quite typical Dell styling - neat and clean, but not particularly eye catching!
Finally, high intensity programs such as professional design apps and games, this PC will simply not cope! Personally I would not recommend Dell for this as, having used a number of different models, come no where close to a custom built PC for the same price. ...

Apple iMac Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz - 20" TFT
Review of Apple iMac Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz - 20" TFT by
owais997
Advantages: speed, sound, generous size monitor, Leopard OS
Disadvantages: Power/Sleep light missing
Duration of ownership:2 Weeks
Strengths: Sleek and beautiful design, simple and elegant operating system, wireless keyboard and mouse
Weaknesses: Power/Sleep light missing
Overall Evaluation:I have used Macs (5th one) since mid-90s and have always appreciated their design and OS strengths. Overall, this is an great computer. Everything worked perfectly right out of the box without checking the manual. Considering what is included on this iMac, ... ...peripheral you need to add is a printer! You sure get a lot of features for the money.Price is always a concern, especially compared to PCs. With this model, they have added more "bells and whistles" and not raising the price.Apple has finally gotten its act together by redesigning the popular iMac. ...
