Can't go wrong with an HP
Review of HP Compaq Business Desktop dx2000 - Celeron D 330 2.66 GHz by thepcclinic

Advantages: Industry standard, good support, solid
Disadvantages: Doesn't like non-hp parts, develops noise

...the Celeron version and £400ish for the Pentium 4 version (I'd go with the P4). Support is very good from HP. When buying one from an HP Authorised dealer you will get a years onsite warrantee. Overall, this is a good PC and you won't have many problems. ... Read review

Mediocre For The Few
Review of HP Compaq Business Desktop dx2000 - Celeron D 325 2.53 GHz by lowkay

Advantages: Fast, Reliable and Cheap
Disadvantages: No monitor, not very asthetic

This computer is packed with about as much as you could expect for such a low price, however it lacks a monitor and that is probably one of the biggest disadvantages. It is clearly a computer meant as a workstation or a replacement for an older PC that still has a working monitor. It is important to note that, as with any computer, it's life span is likely to be the latter end of 2 years. Having said that any computer can last a lifetime if you ...
...than what you want it for. Overall it is probably best if you shop around as this computer in particular is currently entry level, in another 6 months or so it won't even be seen as a low-end computer. Unfortunately as technology goes this will be out of date fast. ... Read review

My Christmas Present!
Review of HP Compaq Business Desktop dx2000 - Celeron D 330 2.66 GHz by LesleyG

Advantages: Excellent all round service.
Disadvantages: None, so far.

Having never used a computer before, unless you count the Sinclair ZX, I was slightly apprehensive looking at this "intelligent television set", but upon sitting down and "playing" for a while I found that it was very simple to connect up, all plugs, leads, etc., were clearly labelled, instructions concise and to the point. After a month of blundering around something happened and suddenly it wouldn't do anything except start up, I phoned Mesh in ...
...I was trying to explain, e-mailed me instructions on how to fix my problem, followed up with a phone call to check that I understood the procedure. After doing as I had been instructed my "baby" now works perfectly. I have since realised that the problem was all my fault, Mesh must have realised this, but their attitude to a complete beginner was, in my opinion, second to none. I would recommend Mesh to anyone who was looking for a first computer, ... Read review

iMac Core 2 Due 20" TFT
Review of Apple iMac Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz - 20" TFT by autonick

Advantages: Screen, Webcam, amazing processer speed
Disadvantages: With mine the Wifi can sometimes be an issue

...I bought it from the Apple store in London, where I must say the customer service is amazing and the staff had an answer to all my questions! Before this Imac I had an Ibook G4 which was the best thing since sliced bread, thats what made me want one of these. The IMac is all an all in one computer, all the bits are in the screen with only the keyboard and mouse separate. This makes it great for people with not so much space. This computer is very ...
...round, the whole unit is a sort of brushed aluminum colour and my favorite bit is the small brushed aluminum keyboard, which has nice sized buttons and a nice feel to it (ie not big and chunky keys) The IMac loads up in no time, unlike a Windows machine and within less than say 30 seconds you are ready to go. The screen is Massive, bright and very clear, and the graphics can easily handle online TV and gaming, I use mine to play World of Warcraft ... Read review

ibm does good again
Review of Lenovo ThinkCentre M55 8795 - Pentium D 925 3 GHz by atytyut2434

Advantages: ibms past record
Disadvantages: poor choice of graphics port

I've got one of these, in fact I'm writing this review on it right now. I bought it at my local auctions 2 years ago & I'm still getting great use out of it. It looks sleek with its all black case, keyboard & mouse. It's really easy to do upgrades on as it requires no tools to open the case or remove any parts. I upgraded the dvd-rom in mine to a rewriter & it took minutes to do & was as quick to get running & burning with. It might not have a ...
...games pretty well. I've been able to play both Quake 4 & Half Life 2 at fairly decent speeds. The port to fit a graphics card is a slightly annoying issue as it's intended for a standard PCI card & I was expecting to find an AGP port but I guess thats the price you pay for buying what was only ever intended to be a business machine. On-board sound is very good, the 1gb of RAM that comes as standard is more than enough for what I use it for. It ... Read review
