ThinkCentre... Think Smarter
Review of ThinkCentre S50 8183 - P4 2.8 GHz by RichardSlater

Advantages: Slimline, Well Featured, Looks Good
Disadvantages: No Firewire, Not thought out properly

...the PC after all! IBM’s ThinkCentre range represents IBM’s mid-range business workstations, enough power and multimedia capabilities to run the top end office and productivity, whilst keeping costs down to make the systems as affordable as possible. A hidden but equally important part of the ThinkCentres resides inside the computer and installed on the hard drives, these discrete design decisions and software packages that are shipped with the machines. ...
...the contents of the IBM ThinkCentre are nothing short of an engineers dream. WHATS ON THE BOX ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The system itself comes pre-loaded with Windows XP Professional, along with a raft of other interesting bits of software. However the real hidden power of the machine is on the CD’s that came with the system. You will find the latest versions of IBM Rescue and Restore and IBM Director, these two pieces of software will save hours of ... Read review

Perfectly competent corporate desktop
Review of IBM NetVista M42 8305 - P4 2.4 GHz by dobieg

Advantages: Bread and butter, bog standard box, predictable and easy to deploy
Disadvantages: Not the lowest price for specification

...have come to expect from IBM of late; practical, quite nicely engineered, but again, the description of 'adequate' springs to mind. They have obviously taken a leaf or two from the competition, virtually all of the internal components can be exchanged without having to revert to tools - the IBM standard has been retained, anything marked blue implies that it's for removing (In Compaq, it's green) Depending on the model you buy, it comes with Windows ...
...In summary, well up to office tasks, but of limited interest to home users, but nonetheless well built, and will give many years faithful service. My previous comparisons between IBM kit in general and Volvo remain unchallenged, it's capable, even a little sporty on occasions, but above all safe. ... Read review

IBM PC 300GL easy to upgrade
Review of IBM PC 300 GL PII 333 MHz by richardcatling777

Advantages: Interchangeable processors
Disadvantages: Its a desktop

The IBM PC 300GL was origionaly made for the business sector. The higher spec machine similar to the 300GL was the 300PL which some had AGP graphics and LAN comunications support. This was the lower spec of the two machines but still there wasn't alot of difference. If you wanted to have better graphics or LAN support you could fit a PCI graphics card or an extra LAN card. Many motherboards of this spec had at least 4 PCI slots and for this machine ...
...look on the Intel / IBM website for a motherboard manual. Another thing was that missing AGP slot. I couldn't play the games i wanted. The better spec 300PL had the AGP slot and a better graphics card could boost my gaming performance. My machine came with Windows 98 but i soon upgraded to Windows XP and it could handle it very well especially fitted with a Pentium 3. Overall quite a good package. ... Read review

IBM ThinkCentre A50 8085
Review of ThinkCentre A50 8085 - P4 3 GHz by drummerer

Advantages: not too expensive, nice looking overall good pc
Disadvantages: a bit standard, not really exceptional

The ThinkCentre A50 8085 has lots of features and technology, including Intel Extreme Graphics 2 performance, six USB 2.0 ports, lots of security features, and powerful software tools to back up and protect your data. Overall i think this is an ok pc, providing you dont install too much memory on it. I wont go into complicated details like memory size, RAM, etc because most people dont tend to understand them to well. Basicly, underneath all the ...
...for an average person. It would be ideal for a student, like me. I bought this pc for about £500 new recently. But be warned! This, like many other computers, may seem great at first, but after a while it grinds to a halt while browsing the internet, freezes when playing games, and takes a lifetime to boot up. This of course is not all down to the computer itself, but how much software you install and how often you clean out temporary files, etc. ... Read review
