warning - no spare parts
Review of Sony VAIO PCV-LX1 - PIII 1 GHz - 15" TFT by janet.bourne

Advantages: great PC design
Disadvantages: you cant get hold of spare parts

This may apply to other sony vaio computers. I was very happy with my vaio until the power supply broke. We were outside the guarantee and were shocked to discover that if you dont have a warrenty you just cant get hold of spares. Its a bit like some car manufacturers - The spares needed are of a different size to other machines and when you try and order the part direct from sony you are told that they will not supply it if you are not under ...
...over, but even then the sony soundcard would not fit so we had to get a new soundcard too. If Id known how much trouble it was going to be i would of just bined it and bought a new desktop. It wasnt cheep to buy and was good while it lasted, but if you decide to buy a vaio make sure you are willing to commit to a long term warrenty agreement or you could find yourself in the same fix. ... Apple Imac G4 800mhz 15" screen
Review of Apple iMac PPC G4 800 MHz - 15" TFT by macuser777

Advantages: Very reliable, all in one design. Good looking. OS X superb. Display and sound excellent
Disadvantages: Lack of expansion, can't replace graphics/ sound card. Small initial memory (256mb)

...comes with a pair or Apple pro speakers which give a very good, clear sound. The LCD screen is very clear with no dead/ hot pixels and is very adjustable. The keyboard and mouse are very comfortable to use. The dvd-rw/cd-rw is at the front of the machine with the eject buttons on the keyboard. The drive burns dvd's and c.d.'s perfectly. At the back are 3 usb 1 ports one of which is taken by the keyboard, 2 firewire ports, 1 ethernet port, power ...
...be complete without mentioning the Apple OS X operating system, it is just great. I have had no freeze ups, crashes etc. I am currently using 10.3 (panther). If an application does crash (usually a shareware program I am trying) the machine just carries on as if nothing happened. The dock which holds your most used applications and documents is very useful. The iapps (which come free with the computer), itunes, iphoto, idvd, imovie, ichat and safari ... Read review

...a lot of work using Apple Mac hardware. We have two studios fully stocked with iMacs, eMacs, Power Books, Power PC's G5's - you name it we've got it! The studio we primarily work in is stocked with 20 or so of these reliable babies which are great fun to use and totally useful at the same time. Its ideal for creative users, Apple software is designed with creative people in mind, the hardware is designed to stand up to the mix of media that creative ...
...As with all modern Apple hardware it is up to the job, handling audio and video streams slowly but surely (bearing in mind these machines do vary from 700MHz to 1.2MHz), obviously the higher spec computer you have, the better its performance will be. The high points of this particular Mac is its functionality: you have readily available USB and Firewire ports, easy access to the rear - no reaching round the back of a bulky tower under the desk. It's ... Read review

A touch of class
Review of IBM NetVista X41 2283 - P4 1.8 GHz - 17" TFT by r0sco1

Advantages: Sleek and Compact
Disadvantages: Poor Graphics Card

IBM have worked very hard to make this PC pleasing to the Eye, everything is hidden away. Not a cable in sight anywhere above desk. The system comes with Wireless Keyboard and mouse. It keeps the design as simple as possible with very few buttons on the front of the pc. The only drawback to the design is no Floppy drive, however IBM makes up for this by including a hiding the CDRW/DVD drive perfectly, the CD drive is hidden away in the stand, when ...
...not cope for high end games although extra memory may help with some games it will NOT make up for the lack of a decent graphics card. At the end of the day, IBM specialises in Business machines and this is defiantly a machine more suited to business use. ... Read review
